Bafetimbi Gomis has no composure. Everytime the ball falls to him in the area, he shits himself and tries to take a million touches before the chance is inevitably cleared. If he kept a cool head and slotted the ball away every time this happens (like he should) he could be one of the best strikers in the league.

I'll take a 1-0 win where the result had more importance than the performance but the latter was disappointing.

Out of the new signings, Darmian played nicely and showed a more natural look at RB than Valencia; Schweinsteiger, for his brief time, did OK and his experience and leadership was there to see; Memphis was quiet and Romero got better as the game went on but IMO, he showed he's a deputy, not a number one keeper.

Rooney's touch for the own goal showed rustiness but also a general feel of his game, his first touch at times and recently, has been poor but he needs to sharpen up quick but United in attacking phases, with space to attack in behind, drop off and play the ball all the way back and this mentality needs to change otherwise there'll be more drab performances but maybe, more 1-0 wins which is the main thing.

Just seen Jerome's disallowed goal. Cracking finish, not a thing wrong with it as far as I can see. I didn't feel too bad about the result because we played well but I do feel about robbed after seeing that.

Uniteds win wasn't too convincing. Chelsea drew today. Hopefully Arsenal can get a comfortable win tomorrow and start the season strong. They notoriously start of weak and then get stronger by the end of the season. Hopefully that won't be the case this time.

0-0 to start the season against one of the title favourites in Derby, we played great should have won really but the crossbar deciding to get in our way and to sum it up, Neil Lennon said this "Derby bring on an international in Hendrick or a £2.5million man in Weimann, I’m bringing on a 97-year-old in Heskey"

How do you feel about Heskey now, @Romo?

I remember when he first joined, you were praising the signing.

Just realized I'd not said anything about Friday night, tough win over St. Mirren in the first League game of the season, being the relegated side they were a bit of a wild card and I wasn't sure how they'd measure up to us.

They closed down really well and made it difficult for us, when Lee Wallace managed an early brace I believed it'd be another easy win but a couple of minutes later they pulled one back, it was a nervy match from then onwards. There were some nice creative moments, mostly driven by Lee Wallace who had a blinder of a game but nothing came of it.

Late in the game they missed a penalty that could have brought them level, absolute howler from Steven Thomspson let us off the hook. Dean Shiels managed a messy goal to make the closing minutes a bit more comfortable but the 3-1 scoreline wasn't representative of the match at all.

Still really excited about the look of the team, guys like David Templeton, Lee Wallace and Nicky Law are like night and day from last season. New boys James Tavernier, Andy Halliday and Martyn Waghorn are all looking right at home. We've games on the telly for the next three Sundays so there'll be plenty of opportunity to see how the team settles in to the new season. :tim

Cue the "Cech - Mourinho's double agent" and "Cech was supposed to save 10 points a season not give them away" jokes.

What a debut to forget. Just misjudged the first goal and second could have been better defended. Wonder if Arsenal will regret, not signing Schneiderlin, when they had the chance. But imagine they will try to get Benzema to lift the spirits again but be amazed if Madrid sold him yet.

Brilliant win for Liverpool, game was boring as fuck but Stoke away is always horrendous so to get three points is huge for them, particularly as they were battered on the last day of the season 11 weeks ago. Emre Can made a big difference when he came on, Firmino looked bright.

Still not sold on Benteke though, no idea why he was signed. Players like Coutinho and Lallana are looking to thread you through on goal, you need a striker hanging on the last man making those runs (I'd have started Ings) which will hopefully be Sturridge when he's back. Early days for him yet so this is a harsh criticism but they kept pumping the ball up to him (to his credit he won a lot in the air) but it kept proving fruitless.

I am baffled by the signing of Benteke too tbh. They've tried to fill the hole that Suarez left with completely different types of players, and it hasn't worked for Liverpool at all. I'm not sure Liverpool fans are gonna accept long ball football as an acceptable plan b.

Benteke is a Drogba-type player and Liverpool don't have the right players to utilise him properly. This was said by a lot of Villa fans before he signed. He'd be much better at Chelsea or Spurs, who play with tactics which suit him.

Interesting to note Mignolet, rather than play out from the back, was booting the ball up which is to play to his strengths but reminds me of United utilising Fellaini's strengths end of last season, has to be done. Think he should have used the long ball as a mix up option, try to play the ball on the ground and use that when they need a goal.

Mignolet's distribution is probably the worst of any keeper in the league though. Guzan a close second.

to his credit, worked hard at the end of last season and played a decent role in being a target man, signed on for another year in the summer and is now more of a last 10-15 minute man, hit the bar yesterday and managed a DOUBLE NUTMEG. he isn't on alot so it works out nicely for us considering we haven't got the money like other clubs have to make big money signings.
