Sorry Tim, I should have explained it better. They weren't doing it as a personal business decision. It was mandated. When people starting asking why they couldn't buy a flag, the assistants on the website said the company was told to by the U.S government. It's not freaky tin foil hat it makes sense why they'd do this. The riots have been terrible and from their perspective they don't want some redneck uprising. I'm all for companies refusing to sell you a product but if we use that logic here it means that amazon thinks the Confederate army is worse than the Nazis.

By the way I'd suggest brushing up on your Civil War history but I'm no genius myself lol. WCV explained it pretty good.

I mean if we're talking from a historical standpoint it's probably because they're the ones who primarily fought to continue the enslavement and daily torture of black Americans...

In the past, but some of you "White Knights" need to let that shit go. It's fucking 2015.

I can assure you that it's not a daily torture for me to see a Confederate flag. I go to the south all the time on vacation and take it as a part of their culture. To me, the civil war never represented slavery. It was about money.

I think that "it's fucking 2015" comment applies a lot more easily to those desperate to maintain the flag's status, honestly. Why are people so attached to this thing?

And I don't think the passage of time has really done the confederate flag any favours in terms of how it's viewed in society. Flags are symbols, that's their purpose. And the confederate flag is one that still carries negative connotations. Maybe more than ever. The civil war was a long time ago, but it's not like people have stopped associating the flag with that event and with slavery.

This is all coming from a proud "white knight" though. Someone who thinks social justice warriors sound pretty cool and that political correctness can actually be a good thing. So maybe I was always destined to be on this side of the argument.

Political correctness goes against hard truths. Honesty goes before anyone's feelings IMO. Unless she asks you if she looks fat.

But, in a democracy, I do not like the federal government doing things like this. I also do not like Obamacare for many of the same reasons. The government is supposed to be run by the people, and the people should make these decisions.

If you have a problem with the federal government doing this, I assume you also have a problem with literally everything else it does as well? We aren't, nor have we ever been, a direct democracy like you're talking about. "The people" don't decide anything on the federal level, especially not the constitutionality of laws. What you're describing is something that would never happen in the U.S.

I know I for one don't give a fuck about the Confederate Flag. I don't own one, I don't know many (any?) who do. It's still something being painted in a worse light than it should be. It's all propaganda and it doesn't matter where on Earth you go, website or real life, you've got some people rubbing it in your face. Hell, a month ago I wouldn't even identify with politics, I'd refused to pick a side, but it's quite clear to me lately that I must come from a more conservative background because I cannot stand this constant bombardment of smugness attitude. "You're a bigot this, you're a bigot that." Man, FUCK YOUR BIGOT BULLSHIT. Period. I've never wished ill on anyone until this horseshit started.

And the fact that I can get even an ISIS flag on Amazon but not a Confederate flag? Are you fucking KIDDING ME?

I think I'm just done. I can't use social outlets online to discuss funny shit like cats bouncing into empty boxes because it's all plastered with shit that targets me and makes me feel like the bad guy, even if all I want is to be left alone. And if I disagree or feel disturbed by any of it I'm just some racist hate monger. Well fine, anyone who calls me a racist hate monger might be right, I will hate them (the people throwing shade my way) in the very least with very great passion.

I'm opting out of political threads on this forum and anywhere else from now on. I'm going to do my best to stay out of anything remotely conflicting, and if I see one coming I'm going to do my best to close the thread and back out. You see, I really loved most people here before all this shit started up and THEN people start loosely throwing out terms dealing with bigotry and racism. I'm finding out now that maybe I don't need to be associated with many of these certain individuals because, in my little ol' insignificant world, they're the ones attacking me.

I think the real issue is that the flag stopped getting sold by Wal-Mart, Amazon etc. but they still sell the guns that were responsible for the deaths of nine people in a church. I couldn't give a toss about a flag that may or may not represent something depending on who you ask, but if I were a black churchgoer in South Carolina I'd feel a hell of a lot safer if ignorant white supremacists didn't have access to weapons that could kill me.

Regardless, how did this thread about gay marriage become about the confederate flag?

My favorite part was when people started talking about Nazis and the holocaust.

But good on the Supreme Court for forcing this through. I know there will be MANY people opposed to this but it was the right thing to do. Ten years after Canada legalized it nation wide and there are still a good handful of bigots bitching about it. There's really no reason people should have different rights simply because of who they are attracted to. And no, churches shouldn't be forced into performing same sex marriages. There are plenty of other places to get married.

This is something that scares me. It's almost cult like. If you don't tow the "everyone who isn't White is oppressed", or that trans people aren't being treated properly, or that gun rights shouldn't be clamped down on, you are a bigot, backwards thinking, racist, homophobe, transphobe, etc. If you're strict on immigration, you're an Islamophobe, or racist towards Mexicans., or racist towards whoever. And whenever you argue with a Liberal, they will attack your character to make you seem like the bad guy. That doesn't give me, or other people who are conservative, the right to be wrong and not get called out for it. It's manipulative, plays on human emotion, and brainwashes children from a young age. They can't even -think- anything that would be deemed offensive without second guessing themselves. "Am I a racist?" NO! You're not, Timmy, you're conditioned to hate yourself, but don't, it's foolishness. But once they've indoctrinated you, once they've got you thinking like they do, it's only the beginning. You're now part of the cult.

I see what you're getting at here, even if it doesn't bother me as much. It's just groupthink, the majority dictates how we should act, it'd be the same way if everybody here was a conservative. But that's not a reason to opt out of the political threads. It's better to die on your own two feet defending your opinions than just accept the echo chamber mentality. To me, it's just political banter, between wrestling fans. So I try not to take it very seriously, even if my opinions on controversial issues has forever tainted my image here.

Nobody is saying that.

Wait... do you think they are?

Circled Square wrote: If you're strict on immigration, you're an Islamophobe, or racist towards Mexicans., or racist towards whoever.

I mean, it depends on what your definition of "strict" is. Again, you're building a huge liberal straw man here. There's a difference between saying "we need to protect our borders and control the amount of immigrants who come into the country" and "don't let those fucking spics into Murica!!!"

...what are you even taking about? Again, I hate to keep throwing this term out there, but this is a huge fucking straw man argument.

Yeah, cause the far right fucking mindset you seem to subscribe to is far less cult like than the liberal point of view of thinking human beings across the board deserve to have basic rights and the same privileges as each other. Please note the sarcasm.

I think what we can all take away from this is that sensitive, conservative, straight, white guys are the real victims here. Nobody wants to talk about their problems, just because they don't have nearly as many. Except for, you know, all the people that are only comfortable talking about their problems without getting flustered and irrationally defensive. But never mind all that.

If I can handle and get along (and most importantly, like) with a couple of posters who either dislike black people or think black people are nothing more than monstrous, gun-wielding thugs who rarely achieve anything more than a high school education, then I'm sure people can handle a political debate.
