Just re-watched the Armageddon HIAC match.

Holy shit it's awesome! :tim

I was thinking that maybe it wouldn't be as good as I quite remember but it was just chaotic. Organised chaos, though.

Literally stories between everyone in the match were told well, the action was literally EVERYWHERE. Everyone looked good in that match and had their moments. Also, because it was given a solid 40-45 minutes the pacing was really good. Never too rushed to fit loads in, but at no point did the match feel like it was being dragged out.

Does anybody know why this has been the only one? (Which makes it pretty special, it's hard to top anyway) I suppose EC took its role maybe?

Either way it's a top, top match. Still.

Man I always think you can't get more weird and then you say something else :lol

The image of Viazon and his equally odd mates all sat outside the supermarket eating chicken together in the car is too much :lol

Absolutely agree. I thought it was stellar all the way through. Easily one of my favorites!

Yeah, even with all the great Hell in a Cell matches there's been, this might just be my favourite too.

To have 5 guys at the top of their game who were all huge stars..... and Rikishi.

To be fair Rikishi did pull his own weight by taking that big bump.

^^ Imagine if the story had played out slightly differently and it had been Foley in that match instead of Rikishi. He was the one who booked the match as Commissioner, so there was probably a way to spin the story so that he was competing in it too. That match would have been stacked as fuck.

I can't remember the rest of Armageddon at all, the undercard was probably terrible with that many stars in the main event. :lol

^As I recall, Jericho and Kane and some sort of match at that PPV in a feud that started when Jericho spilled coffee on Kane.

Perhaps a future PPV of the Week?

I have no recollection of any of these matches, although it doesn't sound great, it doesn't sound terrible either.

Yeah, it was great brawl. I have heard a lot of people criticise it for being all over the place and being hard to keep up with the action. But that was exactly what it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be chaotic and wild. It's one of the reasons Vince (in kayfabe) didn't want the match to happen.

I also agree with Hanley in relation to the stars in this match. Nowadays having Triple H vs The Undertaker in a match is hyped up to the max as being the best thing WWE has to offer us. Back then it was normal to have both guys in that match without it being hyped up to the extreme. And to think that Rock, Austin and Angle were three of the four other competitors? It just goes to show you the depth they had in quality at the time, all of those were bonafide main eventers and as big as pretty much anyone they've got right now at that time. It's a pity we don't have that anymore and everything seems average!

Capped off, by far, the best year in WWE history. Flawless booking and the addition of The Radicalz and rise of Kurt Angle made the in-ring action absolutely outstanding on a consistent basis. Triple H and The Rock were at their peak too and The Undertaker became such a good wrestler as the American Badass.

Also, like The Legend put above, their cards were stacked. There wasn't a weak leak on their roster (everyone was used correctly) and thus it led to PPVs that were top notch. That Armageddon PPV was honestly pretty average compared to the rest of the PPVs they were dishing out that year. The Hell in a Cell match though was amazing. Probably my favorite HIAC and one of my favorite matches of all-time.

97 was great and so was 2001 in my opinion. 2000 was right up there as well.

97 was a lot of fun, but overall I'd say 2000 is the better year. In '97 the midcard and lower card didn't have the kind of workhorses that 2000 did, in 2000 damn near everyone was over to some degree. 2000 also had hotter crowds being right in the middle of the wrestling boom.
