Who's the biggest scumbag in all of sports?

Postby PorkChop » Apr 25, '14, 2:46 pm

Don King deserves a mention - he'd do anything for money and there's a reason why he's been sued by basically everyone he's ever been involved with. I remember Tyson saying a King was a "wretched, slimy, reptilian motherfucker who would kill his own mother for a dollar" and it's true.

In the fallout with Tyson, it turned out King's daughter had been running a 'Mike Tyson Fan Club' - and King was charging Tyson 50k per year plus expenses, all of which were going to his daughter. Tyson had no idea about the fan club and when he found out, showed up to the fan club office, to see what he'd been paying for. Apparently there were crates of thousands of unopened letters from fans, including a letter from a woman who's son was dying of cancer, who asked for Tyson to give her son a call as he was a huge fan of his. Tyson rang the number to find out the kid had died - over a year beforehand.

King has also been sued by Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and ESPN for various reasons. Horrible, greedy scumbag.

Well, I don't know how a thread like this can be done without mentioning Sandusky, but that's on a whole different level.

Michael Vick probably deserves a mention as well for his prior acts.

Ryan Fucking Giggs. I know Aky won't appreciate me mentioning him but does anyone else find it annoying how much the media and literally everybody still loves this guy? John Terry slept with Wayne Bridge's missus and he's (rightly) considered to be a scumbag but for some unknown reason Giggs is never called brought into discussions like this where we all joke about the likes Terry and Ashley Cole. The guy slept with his own brother's wife for 8 years - 8 years for fuck sake. He also tried to get a super-injunction after cheating on his wife again with some random slag model.

I respect him as a player and for everything he's done for the game but Giggs is easily one of the biggest scumbags I can think of.

So much this. I hate how he's gotten away with what he did. Didn't he pay for her to have an abortion as well?

I don't know, probably. I just hate how he seems to have gotten away with what he did when he's far worse than Terry or Cole who we love to abuse.

For on field/ice actions from a player I think Matt Cooke is right up there. He is a cheap and dirty hockey player and I'm rather shocked he hasn't been booted from the NHL. The only major incident of his I don't really hold him to blame for is when he sliced Karlsson's leg during a check. That was just way weird.

This one really sickens me.

This one just happened this week.

You're never supposed to wish harm to anyone but if someone ended Cooke's career on the ice I wouldn't feel bad for him at all. In fact I hope to see someone elbow the fucker in the head and give him some issues for what he tries to do to others.

Lance Armstrong deserves a mention. (well he deserves to fade into obscurity but you get the point) He was a role model for a lot of people with cancer including a lot of kids. He showed them "that even with cancer their lives are not over and they can still accomplish a lot" but what he really showed them was using peds and cheating is the way to go. Also don't forget he basically forced other team mates to dope as well.

Yeah, I agree with that - he even sued people who suggested he was doping.

The reason why the media (by media, I mean the sports reports, journalists) love Giggs is for his playing achievements. They don't give a fuck about his personal life and who he shags. OK, from an ethical point of view, what he did was wrong but it's the typical situation where a footballer's private life (whether he wants to or not) becomes public attention and the public decide whether he's a prick for doing what he did and whether he should be sentenced for life for it.

Giggs hadn't had an affair with his team-mates ex-partner and had he done, he would have been under the microscope and quite rightly so because the line between professional and personal have mixed. Giggs also had a manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, who probably guided him on what best to do in this situation. Fergie handled the new contemporary, modern media fantastically well and he suppressed all talk on Giggs and keeping him away from the spotlight, like he had done in his early years as a professional.

Terry on the other hand was England captain, had a fling with his ex-team mate's partner and frankly, had he been at Manchester United, with a manager who could handle the media with skill like Fergie then I don't think the uproar would have been as constant as it was. Plus, Terry's charge sheet is hardly squeaky clean so that played a part in the abuse he gets and his racism case with Anton. Giggs, on the contrary, has been squeaky clean professionally but personally, not but frankly, that's not something I particularly care about unless his personal involves fucking up his professional job.

Lance Armstrong and Alex Rodriguez(A-Rod played a similar game with the media over the years as Lance, with the exception of at least admitting he took HGH back with the Rangers).

Ryan Braun deserves a mention too, as he ruined the reputation of a drug testing employee who was guilty of doing what I have no doubt many drug testers do; take shortcuts. We all take a few shortcuts at our jobs, that aren't quite within regulations. You are lying if you say you have never taken one shortcut somewhere, that wasn't exactly by the book, but had the expected result. You learn which shortcuts are acceptable, and which aren't, through experience.

Rather than own up to his mistakes, Ryan Braun chose to use a technicality to get off originally, and accused this individual of tampering with his sample, publicly. I hope that guy sues(or is in the process of doing so) the shit out of him.

The reason I don't necessarily put Braun in the same category as A-Rod and Armstrong just yet, is because he can still make good on this. He's still young, and has time to bounce back. But, he needs to actually own what he did here, and not hide from it.

And the most hated sports figure to me remains...

The late Bill Wirtz, former owner of the Chicago Blackhawks, and father of current owner Rocky Wirtz(Rocky Wirtz is respected quite a bit, after earning that respect back that his father took away)

Bill Wirtz refused to televise Blackhawk games locally, which took Chicago hockey away from the fans, with the exception of nationally televised games. It didn't help that anytime young players started coming up, he'd trade them away. He was called "Dollar" Bill for a reason.

Rocky Wirtz took over the team, and reversed those policies. Chicago Blackhawks games are now aired locally, and the team is much more accessible than it used to be.

The reason I remain bitter with Bill Wirtz(along with many others), is I am sometimes referred to as a bandwagon Blackhawks fan, since they have only started a new trend of success over the last 5-6 years. The real reason most Blackhawks fans appear to be bandwagoners, is we were never able to watch Blackhawks games much growing up, because of Bill Fucking Wirtz. The team didn't get talked about much, out of bitterness.

Yeah, I particularly despise John Terry and Ryan Giggs. Anyone who cheats on their wife is already a scumbag. But anyone who cheats on their wife with their friends or their brothers girl. That's a special kind of scumbag.

A-Rod and everyone else whose lied about using PED's. Once your under investigation, just admit to it. While its still a shiity thing to use PED's, if you just admit to it ill have a million times more respect then the people whi lie about it.
