I think probably just America has gone mad. Having studied a little Irish & British law, I don't think anything like this would make it to court over here. Damages awarded for civil issues like this are meant to indemnify - providing just enough money to heal the damage done. I'd be awfully surprised if McDonalds typically give out napkins worth 1.5 million in total to each customer.

I can't see that anything comes of this, surely the person won't win the suit. It's different than other stupid McDonalds lawsuits for people spilling coffee on themselves or getting fat; it seems like nothing bad happened to the guy at all.
