Champagne Celebrations

Postby westcoast619 » Oct 10, '13, 9:10 am

I've been thinking a bit about these celebrations a lot this October. I do enjoy a good celebration for a team that deserves to celebrate. But my question is, is it done too much in baseball? They do the celebration when they clinch a playoff spot, the team that wins each wild-card game celebrates, and then each team that wins a series from then on out celebrates. So based on the format of baseball's playoff systems now, that's 18 champagne celebrations before the World Series has even began. So the frustrating part for me is by that point you're kind of tired of seeing these teams celebrate so much, it's not that fun to see them celebrate their World Series title.

I enjoy it when my team's celebrating, but I don't even pay attention when it's another team. Except the Dodgers because theirs was unique. For me I don't think it's over doing it, although I can't help but think if I was a team that clinched a wild card berth the last week of the season and went on to win the World Series. I'd be a part of these celebrations 5 times in a month period. Which means drinking a lot of champagne in one month. I think I'd be sick of champagne by the time November came around.

I feel like they should happen at only two times:

1) Winning the pennant
2) Winning the world series.

Having a champagne celebration for clinching the playoffs really devalues the celebration IMO.
