WWE Releases 8

Postby Str8Shooter » May 06, '16, 12:57 pm

A bit of a purge by WWE today. Alex Riley, Zeb Colter, Hornswoggle, El Torito, Wade Barrett, Cameron, Santino Marella, and Damian Sandow are future endeavoured.

Not any huge names. Santino has been retired for a while, Barrett was leaving soon anyway, Riley, Colter, Hornswoggle, Torito, and Cameron were rarely seen. The only midly shocking one is Sandow because he's been getting a lot of social media support lately to be used better.

Sandow is unfortunate. Torito is also a great wrestler and probably could have been repackaged and used to some degree. Cameron was actually improving and could have had a nice role in NXT if she weren't released.

I'm sure Barrett will land on his feet outside of WWE, whether it be in wrestling or not. He'll be fantastic in NJPW if he chooses to go that route.

Poor Sandow. I wonder who he pissed off back stage. I have a hard time believing they wouldn't try to do something with him. You're telling me they will send Riley and Zack Ryder to NXT but not Sandow?

No big losses there. None of them really fit into the direction that WWE is going in and I can honestly say I won't miss any of them. Which isn't to say all of them are terrible. El Torito has some upside, but his gimmick was annoying and he's got nobody to work with really. Zeb is a great manager potentially, but there's nobody obvious I'd put him with right now. Sandow was decent too, though I never loved him as much as a lot of people. I just thought he was good, but nothing special.

Honestly, I'm surprising something like this hasn't happened sooner given the losses that they had to sustain when they were getting the Network up and running. We used to see these kinds of talent purgings on an annual basis. It feels like this is the first time it's happened in almost ten years now.

Cameron??!

:P

I guess I didn't realize Barrett was on his way out, so I was a bit surprised to see his name listed. Sandow was a huge waste, dude got over by himself and WWE hated him for it. The rest... meh.

Barrett posted a thing on twitter saying goodbye, it sounds like he's taking a break from pro wrestling. He's done a bit of acting so I could see him trying to get deeper into that for a while. He has a future in wrestling still when he wants it, there are plenty of promotions that would be interested.

This was Cameron's crowning moment

There is part of me that believes that Cameron was instructed to do that as a rib on her.

Still funny though.

I thought it was a Total Divas storyline, but I don't recall it even being brought up on that show.

How could you really make that mistake though? It's perplexing. I mean if you had literally seen like three wrestling matches in your life you should know the shoulders need to be down. And she was IN the match!

In terms of the actual talent released, Hornswoggle, Torito, Marella and Cameron were all certainly dead wood. The novelty of Woggle and Torito had warn of ages ago, so I'm glad i don't have to watch that shit anymore. Maerlla too had stopped being funny long before he'd stopped being forced down our throats, and Cameron had no business being in the ring years ago, and that was before the influx of new woman. So good riddance to them.

Riley seemed to have a major upside back when he was Miz's sidekick, and i think they really dropped the ball on him. However, he too suffered from all the new talent coming in, because it just showed how little he'd improved and he stood out like a sore thumb. Plus he seemed really outspoken on Twitter, and not in a positive way.

I'd argue Barrett, Sandow and Colter are more talent just wasted by WWE for no real reason. Barrett was fantastic in his Bad News gimmick, and it shocks me to this day they decided to take away the one thing that really got him over, and refused to push him. Same with Sandow, who at one point was in the top 3 guys who would get the biggest pops of the night. How they managed to squander him after that is beyond me. Its like Ryder all over again, someone who got over using their initiative, and was seemingly punished for it. And Colter was masterful on the mic, and there's a plethora of talent that could have done with him as their mouthpiece.

Anyway, i guess they needed to release talent sooner or later. I'm waiting on all the following to get releases pretty soon.

- Adam Rose
- Bo Dallas
- Curtis Axel
- Darren Young
- Epico
- Fandango
- Heath Slater
- Jack Swagger
- Konnor
- Mark Henry
- Primo
- Ryback
- Viktor
- Alicia Fox
- Rosa Mendes
- Tamina

Disappointing to see that Sandow got released and Barrett too. Both have the ability to do good things if they are given good things. As for Rosa Mendes, didn't she just give birth to a child? If so she's probably on maternity leave, and it'd be illegal to fire her while on maternity leave.

Barrett asked for his release, so that's not their fault. Though I guess they could have done more with him while they had him. Then again they did try to push him a few times, but he picked up a few unlucky injuries that got in the way.

Sandow is really the big controversial release. Pity they couldn't find a spot for him. The Mizdow thing got him over big for a while, but much like the Virgil/Dibiase feud years ago, once he finished the feud with Miz, there was never going to be anywhere for him to go.

They could have done something with him to keep him from asking for his release. Them dropping the ball on Bad News Barrett is one of their bigger talent related screw ups in a while.
