Browns prepping to offer all money in the world to Urban Meyer

Finally a decision by Jimmy Haslam I could get behind. Apparently the first offer will be for 10 million a year, as much control of football operations as Meyer wants and something like 2% ownership in the Browns. He'd be willing to go up from there.

As an Ohio State fan as well I could get behind that deal if we could lure Tom Herman away from Houston and back to the banks of the Olentangy River.

There is nothing to this:

Even if there was, I think it would be an horrific move. Meyer is an example of someone much more suited for the college game.

Just like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer is better suited for the college game. It works for some coaches because eventually they tend to rub higher ups and players the wrong way. It works in college because players leave after a few years, but not in the pros. It was the same thing with Saban and Harbaugh. The 49ers were very willing to let Harbaugh walk because he didn't see eye to eye with them and rub them the wrong way. That is after Harbaugh was one of the best coaches in the NFL. Harbaugh had success, but he also started with more talent then Cleveland has.

One point in favor of this move is that Meyer just lost his defensive coordinator to Rutgers. He has now lost Herman to Houston and Ash to Rutgers. Those aren't easy guys to replace.

Yeah add me to the list of people who think Urban Meyer would flame out in the NFL. The majority of big-name college coaches can't successfully transition their game to the big time because they rely so much on their outstanding ability to recruit. Urban's a fine coach but on a level playing field talent wise in the NFL I don't think he'd be likely to stick.

The difference between a Harbaugh and a Saban and a guy like Urban Meyer is they have completely different personalities. Harbaugh and particularly Saban are old school it's my way or the highway with their players and they work them and run them ragged. That works with teenage college students that have no say or no recourse to do anything and will be gone in four years. It doesn't work so well with millionaire athletes that will likely be there longer than the coach if they don't like the way he does things. Urban is a more personable guy that is better at working with his players as opposed to dictating to them. That's why I think he could work in the NFL. Now granted that still requires him to get a quarterback that can win in the NFL and that's easier said than done.

Harbaugh and Saban can't really be put into the same category because Harbaugh has actually had NFL success.
