How did you pick your character name?

Postby ShaneOfan » Mar 30, '14, 8:16 pm

Amos became Amos Hess because I live in Lancaster and Amos is a fairly common name for the Amish, and Hess tends to be more common with the Mennonites but not unheard of with the Amish. I used Hess because Amos isn't exactly Amish, more insane.

I thought Magnum sounded like a badass stage name, and since I knew I wanted it to be a Texan, the "magnum revolver" imagery fit nicely in with that too. Phillips was just kind of random, needed something that sounded almost like a cowboy-ish last name :lol

Ace is a name given to me by an aunt of mine who died of cancer about 7 years ago.

I was having a bad day & decided to go visit her. She told me not to be discouraged because I'm awesome :crybaby

She told me, "People who are good at many things are called Jack of All Trades, but you're better than a Jack. You're the Ace of All Trade because sometimes in cards Ace's are higher than Jacks." :crybaby

That was the last conversation I ever had with her so Ace has been my nickname ever since. The only problem is that the name never really stuck with anyone. It's almost like a self-proclaimed nickname. I use it as a username for everything I sign into. Any character created in a game or a simulated world (PCW included) by me is named Ace

Re: How did you pick your charachter name?

Postby Ali » Mar 30, '14, 10:27 pm

Ryan Haynes - I always felt like Ryan was a strong first name. The "Haynes" came from me listening to rap music searching for a theme, and I happened to shuffle onto Nelly. Nelly's real name is Cornell Haynes, so I went with that for the last name.

The Brothers Comeau - Comeau is from a minor character in Scott Pilgrim. I picked Calvin for one of them because I knew he was meant to be small, quick, scrappy, and mischievious, so I took it from Calvin and Hobbes. Carter was just a nice, stoic contrast to Calvin.

Richard Burke - Again, it turns out that I'm a huge fan of the R sound. Richard is just a nice first name, and Burke just naturally seemed to fit with it. Nothing more than that.

Going old school...

Johnny Briggs - I am a huge Mortal Kombat fan, and my two favorite characters are Jax and Johnny Cage. Johnny Cage + Jax Briggs = Johnny Briggs.

Re: How did you pick your charachter name?

Postby Daz » Mar 31, '14, 12:09 am

Daz - My nickname is school was Dazzle , which was shortened to Daz pretty quickly. Kinda stuck for a bit to the point where it became my username for most things at the time. I'm not as creative as I like to think so when signing up to SOS all those years ago, Daz was the first name that sprang to mind. Saucernips has expressed disbelief that I never added a surname at some point. "The British Rose" came from IOW. The mid-card title was called the British Rose Championship and I was he first champion. It was the first title Daz ever won and I held it for a year, undefeated (funny what happens when you're booking) so I had Daz start calling himself "THE British Rose" because he'd be the one and only person to hold the title.

Dean Brody - Not really sure where this came from. Dean was a name I was fond of I guess, Brody just popped into my head. One could assume Bruiser Brody was the inspiration but I honestly have no idea. The "Dazzling" part of his nickname comes from his tag team with Daz in 06. Needed a name for the team, someone suggested "The Dazzlers" ... probably as a jooke, but I had nothing better so went with it anyway. I thought it didn't make a whole lot of sense for the team to be named after one of it's members, so tagged on "dazzling" to Body's name to compensate.

Melissa Chambers - Melissa was originally Lauren Chambers. She was created during the SOS days with the intent to catfish another writer who was a bit of a dickhead and would constantly talk about his success with women. Signed her up as character, got into a few conversations with the guy but the joke had kinda run its course after a week so we never really got to pay it off. At one point, I needed to come up with a middle name for the conversation, I had a friend named Melissa once upon a time, threw it in there. When IOW started and Team Catwalk came into being, I imagined them as a lot more flamboyant and the gag was that they were gay male models, who would protest their sexuality at every turn, and would have a good looking female manager as their beard of sorts. Needed a name for the character, I still had the Lauren Melissa Chambers name in my back pocket. Dropped the Lauren and the rest as they say is history.

Darren Daniels - Daz is traditionally a nickname for people named Darren. The original concept for Darren Daniels was that he was Daz's unmasked alter-ego ... no idea why. I was/am a big fan of Christopher Daniels and I enjoy a good bit of alliteration so I tagged the name Daniels on the end. "The Model" nickname was the easiest way to explain his gimmick and the inspiration for it, "The Model" Rick Martel.

Adrian Dale - My first and middle name reversed. He originally started as character in my book, a large three hundred pound man with a crossdresser gimmick in the style of Adrian Adonis and Adrian Street. Took the "Adorable" from Adonis and when coming up with Dale's finishing move, kept Adrian Street in mind, hence "Runway-Street".

Gabriel Reece - The first name and last name of two of the main characters of two of my favorite shows at the moment. Gabriel Black from Intelligence and John Reece from Person of Interest. The two characters are both sort of mysterious world savers and I just thought it worked. The fact that it's also a misspelled version of a US Olympic female volleyball player was just an unhappy coincidence.

I think it may have been Tim in a big Skype chat that brought up Orion when I mentioned I wanted a new character. The lesson being of course, Tim knows all.

When I first signed up Barry, I created him as an animal lover. It just happened that the first animal related thing that popped into my head was Teddy Bear. Teddy Bear became Ted Barry.

The name "Theodore" first appeared in a promo written by ShaneO when Barry first joined Hess.

I was trying to come up with the douchiest first name possible, so Spencer came to mind. Figured "It's Miller Time" would be a cool slogan. Spencer Miller. Not much else went into it. :lol
