Evolution to reunite at Smackdown 1000

The band is back together. At SmackDown 1000 on Tuesday, Oct. 16, Evolution reunites – Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton and Ric Flair will be in Washington, D.C. for the historic event.

Evolution is comprised of some of the most successful Superstars in history – there are 49 world championship reigns between the four members, who ran roughshod through WWE from 2002 to 2005, then rode again for a vicious rivalry with The Shield in 2014.

What does Evolution have in store as they make their first-ever appearance on the blue brand during this groundbreaking night? Find out during SmackDown’s 1000th episode, Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 8/7 C on USA Network!

It's weird that this is happening on a Smackdown show as basically all of Evolution's run was on Raw. Then again, Smackdown 1000 does take place in Batista's hometown and they could be looking to set up an angle for Batista's return leading up to 'Mania next year. Batista has said in interviews that he is open to wrestling Triple H again, and next spring is when Avengers 4 comes out so it would make sense timing-wise for Batista to have another run then. Or maybe he'll do something with Orton since he is currently then only heel out of the four (and Orton/Batista was supposedly going to main event Wrestlemania 30, lol)

Does the animal walk for miles inside your pit of danger?

Presumably to beat HHH vs Undertaker for the "middle-aged men crawling on the floor at WrestleMania" world record.

I'm sure they'll be out to set a new record when they wrestle each other next week and Batista will have his work cut out for him.

And there you have it...

I have no idea why anyone thinks this match should happen, and the only story so far is that Batista is the only person Triple H has not beaten (lol). Yet here we are - in the midst of this mostly jovial reunion segment we get this super serious moment between the two that has got to be a major tease.

Thoughts? Any positive ones?

In light of Batista wanting it, and HHH being HHH, I'd say this is nailed on for the main, or co, event of the next Mania. It might tie into whatever next big film Dave is working on, (not the Galaxy as he's pulled out of it apparently) but tbh I can't blame him. He's seen Rock come back into main event status and get a small piece of the pie compared to his prodigious movie earnings so why not Batista?

This is basically Batista trying to relive the glory period of his wrestling career, and the rest of the company indulging him. It's pretty sad.

I guess Triple H is doing the same thing, but he's already involved in a DX reunion right now: he tries to relive his glory days about twice a year, so it's nothing new.

It's such a lame but typical Wrestlemania set-up. The nostalgia act are all back together - despite having wildly different characters and motivations now - and everybody is happy. Then Batista says that Triple H has never beaten him and they do a Wrestlemania stare down ... why exactly? Why would Batista be angry that Triple H has never beaten him? Why would Batista want this match when he has literally nothing to prove?

The sign pointing can't be far behind.

Between this and the DX feud, it also feels like Triple H is now planning on getting all his wins back. Who could possibly care? Watching a corporate heel Triple finally beat Batista after their feud culminated 14 years ago is supposed to make us feel what exactly?

I'm surprised how many fans on Reddit actually want this match to happen at 'Mania next year. Yeah, it was cool to see Big Dave again and he cut a great promo during the Evolution reunion. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more of charismatic, funny Dave that can get dead serious outta nowhere and fuck someone up at the drop of a dime. When given the right material or just using his own, Batista can be a really entertaining character.

But it seems like everyone forgot what a trainwreck his last run was, especially from an in-ring standpoint. Batista was never a good wrestler, even by 2006-2010 WWE standards, and he can only be worse now. Triple H will probably carry him to a decent match (that will also be the longest of the night, yes). But why is THAT the match Batista comes back for? Obviously there's a bunch of people he has never faced who could also get a decent match out of him. And there are better potential opponents for Triple H too; he's been facing new people and/or putting people over at the last few Wrestlemanias, so an opponent like Batista feels like a waste for HHH too.

Triple H vs Batista is one of the greatest feuds of all time and that's partly because Triple H completely lost the feud. Batista beat Triple H 3 times IN A ROW on PPV. It's a very impressive statistic, even more impressive back in 2005 when Haitch had dominated Raw for years. Batista is the only person Triple H has not beaten. There's no point in reversing that. It will actually tarnish their previous feud. It will tarnish Batista's character.

I can understand why Batista wants this match. Working with his buddy, a trusted performer who got him over in the first place, right before Avengers 4 comes out. But why does everyone else want this match?
