Hulk Hogan reinstated, apologizes to WWE locker room

Postby KaiserGlider » Jul 15, '18, 11:32 pm

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan is backstage at the WWE Extreme Rules PPV and met with the WWE locker room to formally apologize for his leaked comments that were racially insulting and led to his 2015 firing from the company.

According to several WWE sources who were present at the meeting, Hogan spent a long time apologizing for what he said and for hurting others and embarassing the company with his comments. Hogan then took time to remind everyone to always remember to think about what they are saying, pointing out that in today's day and age, they have to remember that there are always cameras everywhere and they could be recorded even when they don't realize they are. We are told the talents gave Hogan a big reaction at the end and a number of them were shaking his hand and hugging him at the end of the meeting with Hogan getting very emotional.

Hogan acknowledged the meeting on his Twitter account this afternoon.

PWInsider.com has been told Hogan may be at this week's WWE TV tapings, but that is still to be determined as of this writing. WWE brought Hogan to the PPV in advance of today's announcement that the company has officially reinstated him into their Hall of Fame. Before his meeting with the WWE locker room, Hogan also met with a number of WWE officials and the feeling backstage is Hogan is back on board with the company.

Bryan Alvarez is also reporting that the apology was being filmed for a WWE Network special.

The apology being filmed for a Network Special - says it all really about the motivations for bringing him back and for Hogan delivering his apology.

It has been a while ago that it happened, surely if Hogan was so sincere in rejecting what he said he would have done - an apology to the locker-room - alot earlier than now.

Yeah, I think Aky is right to question the sincerity of Hogan's apology here, especially if it's being filmed for TV purposes. If the dude really cared about it being a legitimate, heartfelt apology, he'd do it off camera with no intention of trying to leverage it into returning to the company in a televised role.

My only question is who really is trying to leverage what? We can question Hogan's motives and sincerity, but I think the WWE's motives and sincerity are even worse, it was probably Vince's idea to record the thing for the Network, not Hogan.

New Day's statement on Hulk Hogan:

New Day wrote:To the WWE Universe and whoever else it may concern:

This will be the only statement we will make regarding Hogan’s reinstatement into WWE’s Hall of Fame. We do not wish to spend the energy debating the point, because between our kids, our external ventures, and this job, our energy is spread thin enough already, lol.

We preface this statement by emphasizing that this is our own opinion and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of anyone else affected.

How do we feel? Indifferent. We are not happy, or sad, angry or resentful. Who WWE puts into the HOF is totally and completely up to the company and from a career standpoint, there is no argument on whether or not Hogan should have his place. We have no problem with his re-induction in the slightest degree. It is impossible to even begin to mention the history and revolution of the business without mentioning his name and accolades.

On a personal level, when someone makes racist and hateful comments about any race or group of people, especially to the degree that Hogan made about our people, we find it difficult to simply forget, regardless of how long ago it was, or the situation in which those comments were made. But we also do not respond with more felling of hate. Instead, we just do not associate with the people who convey or have conveyed this negative and hurtful mindset. This instance will be no different. Perhaps if we see him make a genuine effort to change, then maybe our opinion will change with him. Time will tell.

Through the course of our lives, people have used racist comments towards us and it doesn’t feel good. But if we stopped moving forward every time we were met with prejudicial hatred, then we would have never achieved our current accomplishments.

We know we are worth it, we know our kids are worth it, and most importantly, we know that people that look like us are worth it and always have been. There isn’t a person on this planet who will ever be able to say anything to make us think otherwise because we believe in ourselves as a people an don’t need anyones approval on that, regardless of who they are.

Having said that, his reinstatement won’t change anything for us. It will have zero effect on our ability to perform or the level of effort we will put into doing what we love to do, and that is: To deliver an entertaining product each week for our fan base.

Sincerely,

The New Day

Titus O'Neil has also made a statement which is even more damning. He said that Hogan spent his speech making excuses, saying that he didn't know he was being filmed, etc. Titus didn't believe that Hogan showed proper contrition or remorse for his actions.

Meltzer also reported that WWE turned the speech into a warning about not being caught on camera in compromising situations, rather than using the situation to talk about racism. Apparently Titus and the New Day are far from the only people in the locker room that were unhappy about the situation. So they deserve a ton of respect for actually speaking out.

It's a pity that Titus is a bad wrestler, because he always seems like a good guy.

It's good to see wrestlers like TND and Titus, using their social media platforms to eloquently explain what happened and their feelings as people who were offended by what Hogan said. Otherwise, it'd be reported in the dirtsheets as ambiguous and I hope the company doesn't in anyway clamp down on their comments.

Titus' statement is, like Hanley said, damning and shows the lack of sincerity from Hogan. He's upset he got caught, not by what he said, it appears.
