Ullmann and Ingrid Bergman are simply remarkable. They're truly towering in their roles, and it's rather distressing to know that there are so little female-lead films even today. Linklater's Before films have a heavy Northern European sensibility, I agree, and I thought this was also manifested in Boyhood, albeit to a lesser degree.
Is The Silence your favorite Bergman? My favorite of his works is the longer TV cut of Fanny and Alexander.
Either The Silence, Wild Strawberries or the theatrical cut of Fanny and Alexander (yet to see the TV miniseries).
