If you could see a remake of one movie, what would it be?

Talk about movies and television in here!

If you could see a remake of one movie, what would it be?

Postby Everlong » Nov 19, '13, 10:38 pm

I'm typically against remakes, but there are some that occasionally come out that are done really well. True Grit comes to mind recently but I'm sure I could think of others.

So, what are some that you would choose?

One that would be interesting to see done with more modern technology is Blade Runner, although as it's one of my favorite sci fi movies I'd be nervous about how it'd come out.

Another that could be interesting is The Grapes of Wrath. The Henry Fonda movie from the 40s or 50s is a classic-ish, but I think that a current director could do this book-to-movie translation amazingly. Same goes for Steinbeck's other classic, East of Eden. The James Dean movie really was only a cursory translation of the book, so I'd love to see someone do the story justice.

Although many will disagree I would love to see a remake of full metal jacket.
I know its a classic and in many minds should not be touched but I feel that a version with modern technology and edgyness

The Most Dangerous Game. I love that movie so much, but i think a remake in modern times would work really well.

Slaughterhouse Five from 1972. I'm really surprised this hasn't been done yet, with all the remakes out there. I highly recommend this movie. The best way to describe it is a combination of black comedy, war, and sci-fi.

Might be a bit of a waste of a choice but I'll go with Max Payne.

Fuck remakes and the continuance of them being produced. The only way that I can appreciate or support a film idea being redone is if the filmmaker drastically changes almost everything and makes it their own.

A Fistful of Dollars and The Magnificent Seven are films that I enjoy despite being un-original concepts. They are technically remakes of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo and Seven Samurai, respectively, but are presented in a completely different time and place. John Carpenter's The Thing is the greatest remake of all time and is probably the only one that surpasses Howard Hawks' original, which is in itself a great film.

Certain directors have pulled it off in the past (Cronenberg's The Fly and The Blob from the 80s for example) but considering modern technology with it's ugly over usage of computer generated images and the spiritless digital vibe... I wish they would just stop already. I wish that these big production companies would stop putting blemishes on the legacies of my favorite films just to make easy money.

Adaptations of books are another story, but it's still possible to go overboard sometimes.

I was flipping threw the channels and came across a movie I have not watched in a bit. I started watching it and thought "this would be kick ass if a modern remake was done of it with kick ass CGI and other shit"
And that movie is - RoboCop!

I am not saying a scene for scene remake but more like a modern adaptation of the original RoboCop when Murphy dies and becomes the badest motherfucker in Detroit

Re-imagining would probably the best word and it had a decent budget.

Yeah, I just looked it up. Its got Samuel Jackson in it and a bunch of no namers. Trailer looked liked it was budgeted decently. And the storyline is a bit different. It seems Murphy was alive (although seriously injured) and aware that he was becoming RoboCop. It also appears that he did not get a "memory wipe" during the build.
Not happy about the suit design, looks more like a futuristic suit for batman then a robotic humanoid police officer.

I hate the black suit. But it looks like they do use the classic suit in the trailer so hopefully he wears that for most of it.
