I like the show a lot. We only started watching it recently, which is cool because we were able to run straight into the second season. We're about five episodes into the second season now, I think. Will probably have it finished within the next week.
The portrayal of the prison seems very realistic and it's really interesting all on its own - seeing what these people do every day. The show really gets across some of the horrors of being in prison too. The loneliness and the danger. It really gets across how helpless the inmates are against the guards. Solitary confinement has never looked as scary to me either. It's really a big difference.
The variety of characters is cool too. Some of them I like a lot more than others. I like Piper still, though I get frustrated with her a lot of the time. The fiance is less likable - even though he's technically a much nicer person, he's still a self-involved douchebag and this comes across in every scene he's in. Some of my favourites are Red, Morello, Nickles, the yoga lady and the guard who's in the band. The counselor Mr Healy is maybe the most compelling thing about the show - the guy is pure sleazy evil. Utterly loathsome.
The main thing I don't like about it is that sometimes I don't like seeing the grosser stuff, but I can look past that for an otherwise entertaining show.
