See, I respect Punk for giving it a shot, but this was a 37 year old guy making his MMA Debut on the biggest scale. Not like Brock Lesnar, who actually had a couple of MMA fights under his belt and was about ten years younger when he debuted in UFC. This was kind of bound to happen.

Oh shit, that was tonight?

I mean, not a surprise at al that he lost. Was it an embarrassment or did he at least put up a fight?

Both guys kept it classy after the fight. Punk was pretty poised, and I respect him for it.

Punk came out of the gate swinging, Gall immediately took him down and put him in a choke, Punk tried to get out of it - I think he briefly did for like a second but then got locked in again - and tapped. About a 2 minute fight.

The post-fight press conference is worth checking out. Punk gets emotional at the 4:00 mark, says he let everybody down. He still gave a motivational speech but you could tell deep down he's really disappointed.

Did he use that song though? Because that would still make him a winner in my book!

Dana White has reportedly said that if CM Punk is to compete again, it probably won't be in the UFC.

He could move to Bellator, who would pay him decently and would probably find him an opponent closer to his ability. Bellator are the TNA of the MMA world though. Aside from about 3 decent guys, the rest of them are mostly UFC has-beens or bums that will never make it in the sport. Funnily enough, Bellator and TNA have actually cross-promoted on a few occasions over the years.

It would be a step back for him but sometimes you have to take a step back before you go forward. CM Punk will never make it in this sport though, so he might as well just retire.

I found out on Twitter he'd lost so quickly, just after I'd jumped into bed but incredibly disappointed for him as he'd put in alot of effort to get to that stage of being in the Octagon.

Credit to Gall, he wanted to take him down asap and really push him and take control which he did and Punk never recovered although he did break out of the choke hold at one point but Gall locked it back in. Punk's post-fight stuff was nicely handled and again, rooting for him as at the age of 37, he invested so much with injuries and surgery and it all ended quickly and painfully for him psychologically more than anything else.

He was pushed by Dana into this position because of who he was rather than his experience level which was ZERO. IDK if the prelims which I see advertised (again, seem like a televised dark show to prep the next MMA fighters) wouldn't have been a better arena to enter rather than a place on the main card but I hope he continues for another fight at least. His stock would have been damaged after the performance so Dana might cut him loose having maximised what he has out of him for his own needs and he can politely discard him.

On a side note, he had his foot on the cage at one point trying to escape (which the commentators said wasn't allowed) but a fighter pushing another into the cage and hemming them in is?

Out of interest, Punk hasn't done any new interviews since that awful night on the 10th has he?

I'd be doing the same tbf but he said in his documentary series he'd be having a break which he probably is with his wife's new book out as well.
