2013/14 NHL(hockey) Discussion

Postby HFX » Oct 08, '13, 7:17 pm

Well the NHL season is underway and Canada is rejoicing. Unless you're an Oilers fan like me then you're just kinda confused and numb  . Anyways I felt like we need a thread to discuss the goings on so here it is.

A great win by the Oilers last night. Down 3-0 against the Devils heading into the 3rd period and they score 4 unanswered goals to take the lead. The Devils tied it up to force overtime and guarantee a point but the Oilers pulled out the win in a shootout to skate away with a 5-4 win . It was a bit rough but it's nice to have the first win of the season. The defense and goaltending is still suspect and the forwards are still giving away the puck and playing bad defensively but at least it didn't cost them like it did against Winnipeg and Vancouver. They do need to get that fixed real fast though.

Your Islanders played tonight and are beating the Phoenix Coyotes 6-1 as I type. That means they'll have started the season with 2-0-1 with 5 points on the season. It's only 3 games into an 82 game schedule but it's something to be excited about as they have looked good.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebymonth.htm?team=NYI here's the Islanders schedule for the rest of the month. Be like a Canadian and set your life around the season schedule

The Islanders should be real fun to watch. Not only do they play their old division rivals New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and the Rangers but the Capitals, Carolina and Columbus have all been added to the division. It should be a real tight and exciting race to the playoffs. Also looks like you and ShaneOfan are rivals now.

Jets are off to a solid start, 2-1-0. Defensively they've been pretty bad, and they were lucky to be in it in the 3rd against Anaheim. Still I'll take it.

Anyone see Quick's bad goal the other day!? I guess everyone has a bad day now and then, even some of the best!

I have no idea what Quick was thinking or how that was even possible. That was one of the most flukiest luckiest goals I ever did see. I felt kinda bad for him but every goalie has a bad play/game.

Ducks losing 6-1 to Colorado first game of the new season kind of sent my week into a bit of a tailspin. That happened, then a ton of other shit seemed to pile on. But the Ducks rebounded with two wins so I'm hoping shit gets better from here.

Edmonton hosts Montreal tonight before heading out on a 6 game road trip against the Eastern Conference. The boys need this win so hopefully they play like they did during the 3rd period against the Devils. Dubnyk is starting though and has been real shaky but I believe he can bounce back. It helps that Montreal is probably the only team in the league that shouldn't be able to out muscle the Oilers.

Ducks 3- 0 against the Rangers in the 1st. Also, celebrating a goal whilst on an exercise bike is kinda dangerous.

There's one positive to having insomnia as bad as I do. I haven't missed a Ducks game this season.

As an English sports fan, I found it absolutely baffling that such an extended streaks of games on the road can exist. It must absolutely suck not being able to see your team at home for a number of weeks. I think the Rangers have had it even worse, like 9 games away from home to start the season.

That's poor planning.

It is unfortunate that it happens, but I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the arenas being booked so road trips are necessitated by other events going on. I'm happy that at least the long western road trip is at the start of the season and many of the real important games will be played at home or close to it, in Toronto or Montreal or Buffalo or Boston.
