Planting a placenta.

Postby Chewy » May 11, '14, 7:09 am

I know I'm old, I know I'm a bit old fashioned.

A friend liked a post on Facebook where someone had a selfie of herself with her kid, the kid was fucking ugly but it's Mother's Day, so to each their own.

I was however drawn to the comment under the picture where she detailed how her baby daddy or husband or whatever had bought her a lime tree. Now I would have been beaten to death with any tree I give to my wife as a gift, but I digress.

The rest of the comment detailed that she then planned on planting the tree and her placenta in the same place. Slightly taken aback I read on because for the life of me the child in the picture wasn't a newborn, not even close. The kid near enough had a beard and tattoos.

The comments section went on how the woman had kept the placenta and frozen it for the better part of two years, although from the picture I was guessing forty at least initially planning on eating it. Yes. EATING it.

I would have rather like Porkies hands clean after his toilet adventure.

So tell me club, have any of you eaten or planted a placenta? If so what sort of flora do you recommend for such an occasion? And if you've eaten one, how did you prepare it? With some ketchup in a bun? Medium well with some nice garlic mash?

In any event I'm going back to the 1920s where I belong.

I've never understood eating the placenta, but I quite like the idea of planting it with a tree. Seems like a sweet way to celebrate a new life - bit weird to do it when the kids older though.

Sounds like a great way to end up with a dead tree.

Heard people both eating and planting the placenta, I like the planting, eating is to each their own. I wouldn't really care for eating one but if for some odd reason I had a woman and she wanted us to share it I guess I would do that. I wouldn't partake in cooking or anything but whatev.

The real weird thing about this is how long they kept it... Really weird.

I've heard of planting and eating the placenta before. The thought of eating a placenta makes me want to vomit, seriously why??? I guess the idea of planting it is nice-ish (although not so long after the birth o.O). Personally, I wanted nothing to do with my placenta. :lol

I don't understand it. I guess I understand the symbolic meaning behind planting but eating? I know wild animals do this but its for security reasons, they don't want bloody parts out in the open air for predators to track, same with the full body tongue bath after birth also. I see no reason why a mother or father would want or need to consume a placenta. There is no logic behind it, it can't be healthy to consume human body parts being human yourself and its not like a human needs to quickly dispose of it to ward off predators so why do it?

I must say, there was a pretty significant clue in the thread title as to the subject matter.

But I echo your sentiments.

True. I'll use my excuse as the delicious chicken steak with chips, salad and peri peri sauce as the reason for losing my bearings and opening this thread. Won't happen again.

I have heard of both eating it and planting it. I would feel the need to keep that plant alive because of the symbolism of it all. I have heard about making placenta into a steak but the most common I had stumbled upon was drying it and turning it into a powder to use in smoothies and such. I mean it is gross as hell but the placenta holds a great deal of nutrition for either tree or human.

How much nutritional value can be left after cooking it? I would assume its cooked anyways. And another thing, by default wouldn't your doctor be committing a crime by letting you do this? Simple math, placenta=human body part, eating human body part=cannibalism (even if its your own body part, its still cannibalism). Cannibalism is illegal.

More then a steak would likely have. If you think about it as what it is a organ that keeps a child alive. The amount of nutrients required for the creation and maintenance of life is insanely high. And alot of doctors likely wont give you the placenta, I imagine you would have to talk to them upfront about those desires and it may affect the OBGYN you select for the birth.
