Tim's Week 3 Power Rankings

Postby Everlong » Sep 20, '16, 11:51 am

Thought I'd try weekly power rankings. We'll see if I actually stick with it :P

1. Pittsburgh Steelers: Playing outstanding offense, and seem to have an improved defense. This is the league’s hottest team at the moment.

2. Denver Broncos: Who needs an offense when you’ve got a defense like that?

3. New England Patriots: They’re facing a true test if they’ve got to go the next few weeks without both Jimmy G AND Brady, but if anyone can overcome that, it’s Bill Belichick.

4. Carolina Panthers: I’m going to give Carolina the benefit of the doubt for its week one loss… that’s a tough situation for any team. Until proven otherwise, they’re still the team to beat in the NFC.

5. Arizona Cardinals: That flop against the Patriots is still fresh in my mind, but they rebounded this week and still have the potential to go the distance.

6. Minnesota Vikings: Sam Bradford is a clear upgrade over Teddy Bridgewater, whatever the internet hivemind says. But that defense is the true star of this team.

7. Cincinnati Bengals: Really tough opening schedule for the Bengals, but they’re still built for the long haul.

8. Houston Texans: The Texans look to be a greatly improved team this season. The defense is still playing really well, and the offense is showing a little more like than it did with Hoyer.

9. New York Giants: If this team Is able to maintain this quality of defense all season long, they could be a dark horse contender, a la 2007 and 2011.

10. Kansas City Chiefs: This team has the balance on both offense and defense to get back to the playoffs, but they’ve got to become more consistent

11. New York Jets: A similar team in many way to the Chiefs. They’ve got the pieces in place, but need to stay consistent.

12. Baltimore Ravens: They had a scare against Cleveland, but had a great comeback and are off to a nice (if quiet) 2-0 start.

13. Green Bay Packers: The Packers’ offense looks completely terrible, and there’s obviously something wrong with Rodgers. But the good news is the defense (outside of Damarious Randall in week 2) is playing great football, especially the front seven.

14. Seattle Seahawks: They’re holding on based on name recognition right now, but it hasn’t been a good first two weeks at all for the Seahawks. Terrible showing against LA, and they probably should have lost against Miami, as well. Those are two bad teams giving Seattle the business.

15. Philadelphia Eagles: I’m still not sold on this Eagles team, but they’re definitely off to a much better start than could have been anticipated. We’ll see how they hold up against Pittsburgh.

16. Oakland Raiders: #1 offense, #32 defense. They’re going to have to play better on defense to get to the postseason, especially in their division.

17. Dallas Cowboys: Dallas played the Giants really close in week 1, and got past the defending division champs in week 2. They might not be a playoff team, but at least they’re not looking like a total disaster.

18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: They’re looking a 2-1 start in the eyes right now, which is signs of continued improvement for Tampa.

19. Atlanta Falcons: This team looks to be maddeningly inconsistent once again. They have the talent for a playoff run, but can never seem to put it together in consecutive weeks.

20. Detroit Lions: The Lions of week 2 were a much different team than the Lions of week 1. Which will show up in Green Bay?

21. Indianapolis Colts: This is the third year in a row the Colts have started 0-2. Outside of Andrew Luck, there are no great players on this roster.

22. San Diego Chargers: Philip Rivers is playing great, but he can only do so much when everyone around him is getting injured. At least Melvin Gordon is scoring.

23. Tennessee Titans: They’re playing tough, but not necessarily exciting football. This is looking like a six or seven win team.

24. San Francisco 49ers: They haven’t been nearly as bad as expected. 28 and 27 points in weeks one and two. So their offense can still score… but their defense needs to play better against teams that actually have an offense.

25. Washington Redskins: Last year’s Redskins benefitted from an easy schedule and a rebuilding division. This year’s team doesn’t have the same luxury, and it’s showing.

26. Miami Dolphins: They were close in week one and put up a slight fight in week 2, but it’s just not enough for a team that people keep saying is “close” to the wild card spot.

27. Jacksonville Jaguars: So much for this being the Jags’ year to show off. More of the same from a team that just can’t get it together. Gus Bradley could be the first coach fired this season, if he outlasts Rex Ryan anyway.

28. New Orleans Saints: How could anyone trust this team with the defense they have? It may have been a low scoring affair against the Giants, but who believes the Saints can keep that up?

29. Los Angeles Rams: They avoid being at the bottom by virtue of having a win. But make no mistake, this is one awful team.

30. Chicago Bears: The Bears could very well be the NFC’s worst team. With Cutler out, it’s going to get even uglier.

31. Buffalo Bills: Rex and Rob Ryan should never be employed again in the NFL.

32. Cleveland Browns: I still believe in the approach the new Browns regime is taking to building this team through the draft. Unfortunately for Browns fans, those results often take a bit to show up. This is going to be a long year.
