Disaster has struck in Dallas.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett announced Saturday that starting quarterback Tony Romo underwent an MRI on Friday that revealed a broken bone in his back, per David Helman of the team's official website.
Garrett labeled Romo "day-to-day" and refused to give a timetable for his return, but NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport was told by a source that the quarterback's "best-case scenario" is returning by "mid-season," noting that Romo "broke a different bone than last time" when he suffered a fracture in 2014. Rapoport also reported that Romo specifically is dealing with a compression fracture of his vertebrae.
Who would have thought that out of all the rookie QBs, the only one (probably) starting Week 1 would be Dak Prescott?
I feel so bad for Romo, but he needs to retire. His body just can't handle the punishment. One of my favorite players of all-time and I'll never understand why so many people hated him (other than the fact he plays for the Cowboys), one of the most genuinely good people the NFL has.
