Chiefs defense

Postby Everlong » Oct 14, '13, 4:05 pm

Tamba Hali has 39 QB pressures, Justin Houston has 25. The nearest non-Chief has 21.

The Chiefs had 10 sacks of Terrelle Pryor yesterday. 10!!!

This is one baaaaaaaaaaad crew. Anybody think they could take the division this year instead of the Broncos?

Nope. Alex Smith is ranked somewhere between #27-29 in average yards a game. That type of offense works against more of the poor defenses but no way they can keep up with the fire power of a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning offense.

As far as their defense, yes they are very impressive. They have been blessed with a very EASY schedule this year too. They'll still got 12-4 or 13-3 but will lose the tie breaker with Denver.

Chiefs are doing what they've always done. They go awesome D, no offence.. or they go awesome offence, no D. Last few years they had neither. I think the Chiefs can get to Manning, he starts sucking under pressure, but they need to start putting points on the board. Alex Smith is practically another Matt Cassel.

The amount of QB pressures Hali and Houston have are insane.

Who says their offense needs to keep up? With the kind of pressure the Chiefs are generating, why couldn't they harass the Broncos and shut them down?

You are not going to shut the Broncos down they are just too good. The o-line is too good. Peyton Manning is too good at pre-snap reads of pressure and the receivers are too good at getting open quickly. Even if you knock two touchdowns off of what the Broncos usually do offensively because of the Chiefs defense (which would be a huge accomplishment against any offense) then your offense still needs to score in the low to mid-30's to win the game. Do you trust the Chiefs offense to do that?

Honestly, a good defense isn't the key to beating the Broncos (they torched Baltimore for 49 in Week 1 and the Ravens have only allowed 16 PPG in the rest of their games) and a good offense isn't really either (Dallas proved that). The only question that is really left about Denver's longevity for the season is whether they can still play this way in December or January when the weather is going to be bad in Denver, New England and maybe Kansas City.

That's not to say they won't drop a late regular season game, because they probably will, every NFL team probably will drop a game at some point. My best guess would be one of back-to-back road games against New England and Kansas City November 24 and December 1.

This sounds to me a lot like what I was hearing in 2007 when the Giants played the Patriots. The Patriots at the time had arguably the greatest offense of all time, yet they folded under the constant pressure that the Giants created. This Chiefs defense is better at creating pressure (so far) than that Giants defense was. Why can't the same thing happen? Sure, it's not likely... neither was the Giants' defeat of the Pats. But everyone's making it out to be a foregone conclusion that the Broncos are going to take the division.

It's definitely not out of the question that the Chiefs could definitely take this division. I don't think a lot of people understand how good this defense really is. It hasn't been a fluke that they've been this good this year. Really it's going to come down to what every good divisional title race comes down to. Games against your own division. The weeks 10, 11, 12, 13 are going to be the ones to decide this division in my opinion. Denver always struggles in KC and in San Diego. KC is also better at home than the road within the division. San Diego could decide this division if they are able to knock off one of these teams in those games. It'll definitely be interesting to see, and while I still think Denver will win the division, I don't think it's as far fetched as people think that KC could possibly win this division.

I know it's just numbers and a lot of times the numbers can lie, but the Chiefs have actually scored more points this year than anyone in the AFC other than Denver.

If one team can stop Denver, it's the Chiefs.

Hopefully the Chiefs and Broncos will both still be undefeated when they meet in Denver week 11. I'll be pissed if that game isn't televised.

I know that CBS protected both Chiefs/Broncos matchups so they can't be flexed to MNF, but I'm sure they'll be the late afternoon games that get nationally televised.
