Let's take a look at the last three years for Chargers head coach Mike McCoy. First he starts a year as Denver Broncos offensive coordinator with Kyle Orton at the helm running an offense. When that didn't work in a month and the Broncos decide to throw Orton overboard in favor of Tim Tebow. McCoy totally rewrites the offensive playbook to fit having a running back take snaps from center the entire game and works that to not only a playoff berth, but a playoff victory over Pittsburgh with Tebow at QB.
Fast forward a year and John Elway casts aside Tebow and brings in Peyton Manning. McCoy totally recreates the offense to fit what Manning does and leads the Broncos to a first round bye and barring a total breakdown by defense (something McCoy can't be responsible for as an offensive coordinator) would have won that game.
He turns that into a head coaching gig in San Diego where he works with Phillip Rivers who a lot of people had written off as past his prime and creates an offense that leads the Chargers to the playoffs and another playoff victory.
I challenge anyone to find another offensive coach that has guided a team to the playoffs in three consecutive years with three completely different quarterbacks like McCoy has. In this day and age of forcing players into fitting a coach and his desired system that he's comfortable it takes a real genius to throw that all away and go with what best fits your personnel no matter what.
You now have permission to worship him... now!
