Week 15 NFL Picks and Discussion Thread!

Three weeks left, and it's a mad dash to the playoffs! Only a couple teams have officially clinched, and even then, there's still all the seeding left to work out. Let's do this.

GAME OF THE WEEK - New England Patriots (11-2) at Denver Broncos (8-5), NE by 3 - The Broncos fumbled what should have been a winnable game against Tennessee last week. Now they find themselves in must-win position against a Patriots team playing like the best in the league. The Wild Card competition remains hot in the AFC, with the Ravens, Steelers and Dolphins all in hot contention for that sixth slot. A loss here, and Denver is going to be in major trouble, especially considering they still play Kansas City and Oakland again. While the Broncos have historically given the Pats a lot of trouble in Denver, this seems like a game prime for the taking for the Pats. Patriots 27, Broncos 20

THURSDAY NIGHT - Los Angeles Rams (4-9) at Seattle Seahawks (8-4-1), SEA by 14 - The Seahawks have not been embarrassed like they were against the Packers in the entire Russell Wilson era. But now they get to play a team that just fired a coach at home on a short week. Should be a romp. Seahawks 27, Rams 6

Miami Dolphins (8-5) at New York Jets (4-9), MIA by 2.5 - Playing without Ryan Tannehill, the Dolphins still have a shot to get into the playoffs. They need to take advantage of these easier matchups if they hope to get there. Fortunately, Matt Moore is one of the more capable backups in the league. Dolphins 20, Jets 17

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5) at Dallas Cowboys (11-2), DAL by 7 - One of the biggest games of the week for the playoff picture (who'd have seen that coming before the year started?). The Bucs need a win to stay ahead of the Redskins, Packers and Vikings in the Wild Card hunt, while the Cowboys need a win to clinch the top overall seed. Expect a tough, low-scoring game but a Cowboys win on the basis of their running game and ball control. Cowboys 17, Bucs 14

Detroit Lions (9-4) at New York Giants (9-4), NYG by 4.5 - The Lions begin their absolutely brutal closing stretch to the season, when they play the Giants, Cowboys and Packers in successive weeks. They won the game they needed to win, and can even afford to lose at least one of the next two. But the Giants are a matchup problem for the Lions. Their secondary is playing really good football, as is their defense in general. Meanwhile, Matt Stafford is playing with torn ligaments in his throwing hand. I can't say I have any confidence in them to be able to pick up a road win outdoors in the cold against a Giants team priming itself for a playoff run. Giants 23, Lions 16

Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) at Baltimore Ravens (7-6), BAL by 6 - The Ravens need this game to stay in the playoff race. A loss would be a crushing blow to their postseason hopes. With the way the Eagles are playing right now, expect Baltimore to come out ahead. Ravens 24, Ravens 17

Green Bay Packers (7-6) at Chicago Bears (3-10), GB by 6.5 - Where was this Packers team in October and November? They're suddenly looking the part of the contender everyone thought they would be before the season started. It seems inevitable that they'll run the table at this point, which means Detroit had better keep winning if it wants to avoid choking away its first division title in nearly 25 years. Packers 33, Bears 13

Indianapolis Colts (6-7) at Minnesota Vikings (7-6), MIN by 4 - The Colts are going to require a lot of help to get to the playoffs at this point, but they still have the talent to play spoiler, especially against flailing teams like the Vikings. The Colts have been alternating wins and losses each week for a couple months now, so there's no reason to think they can't keep the trend going against a Vikings team that's dead in the water. UPSET! - Colts 27, Vikings 23

Cleveland Browns (0-13) at Buffalo Bills (6-7), BUF by 10 - Browns. Bills 30, Browns 10

Tennessee Titans (7-6) at Kansas City Chiefs (10-3), KC by 5.5 - Another huge game in the AFC, as the Titans are in a fight for a division title for the first time in December in recent memory. The Chiefs should get the win, but expect a challenge from this upstart Titans team. Chiefs 23, Titans 20

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) at Houston Texans (7-6), HOU by 6 - The Jaguars aren't beating anyone as long as Gus Bradley remains their coach. Texans get a crucial win to improve their division title hopes. Texans 20, Jaguars 13

New Orleans Saints (5-8) at Arizona Cardinals (5-7-1), ARZ by 2.5 - At this point, I never know how to pick games for either of these teams. Fuck it. UPSET! - Saints 27, Cardinals 24

San Francisco 49ers (1-12) at Atlanta Falcons (8-5), ATL by 13.5 - Lol. Falcons 34, 49ers 10

Oakland Raiders (10-3) at San Diego Chargers (5-8), OAK by 3 - Huge game in the AFC West. The Raiders need a win to keep pace with the Chiefs, and going on the road in the division is never an easy task. But still, they are the better team here. Raiders 27, Chargers 21

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5) at Cincinnati Bengals (5-7-1), PIT by 3.5 - Playing for a division title in the near future, the Steelers will keep their noses to the grindstone and pull out a tough road division win. Steelers 23, Bengals 20

GAME OF THE WEEK - New England Patriots (11-2) at Denver Broncos (8-5), NE by 3 - The Broncos have the defense to make this game somewhat interesting, but their derailed train of an offense gives them zero chance of actually beating the Patriots. NE Patriots 24, Denver Broncos 20

THURSDAY NIGHT - Los Angeles Rams (4-9) at Seattle Seahawks (8-4-1), SEA by 14 - This one has no chance of being anything but ugly. Seattle Seahawks 27, LA Rams 13

Miami Dolphins (8-5) at New York Jets (4-9), MIA by 2.5 - The Jets are one of those teams have are totally mailing it in by this time of December. Miami is still fighting for a playoff berth, motivation should be all that's needed here. Miami Dolphins 23, NY Jets 19

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5) at Dallas Cowboys (11-2), DAL by 7 - This one could be very interesting. The bloom is starting to come off the Cowboys as they pick a bad time to start to fade, the NFC Super Bowl representative looks more and more like the hottest team in January - not the best team. Tampa's really improving this season, but I'm not sure I can pick them to beat Dallas on the road just quite yet. Dallas Cowboys 25, TB Buccaneers 20

Detroit Lions (9-4) at New York Giants (9-4), NYG by 4.5 - Another very interesting game between fringe playoff teams in the NFC. If the Lions can't win this game the battle for the NFC North will become fascinating three horse race in the final two weeks. NY Giants 24, Detroit Lions 21

Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) at Baltimore Ravens (7-6), BAL by 6 - Coin flip game. It goes to the home team. On a side note, what's happened to the Eagles? Baltimore Ravens 21, Philly Eagles 20

Green Bay Packers (7-6) at Chicago Bears (3-10), GB by 6.5 - Packers getting hot at the right time and the Bears haven't hit a stride all season. GB Packers 24, Chicago Bears 18

Indianapolis Colts (6-7) at Minnesota Vikings (7-6), MIN by 4 - This game goes one of two ways, either defense carries the day for the Vikings or Luck gets hot and puts up a lot of points. I like Minnesota's front to rip apart that Indy offensive line. Minnesota Vikings 23, Indy Colts 21

Cleveland Browns (0-13) at Buffalo Bills (6-7), BUF by 10 - The Browns have lost 13 games this season, they lost all four preseason games in August and they lost the final three games of last season. That's 20 straight times stepping on the football field that they lost. 21 games counting preseason is the longest losing streak in the NFL since the merger in 1970. The Browns will be giving their fans the dubious distinction of that record as a gift for Christmas Eve this year. Buffalo Bills 26, Cleveland Browns 18

Tennessee Titans (7-6) at Kansas City Chiefs (10-3), KC by 5.5 - KC got a huge win last week over the Raiders, I think they will have a bit of a hangover from that one against a team that is suddenly playing about as good a game of football as anyone. UPSET!!! Tennessee Titans 24, KC Chiefs 23

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) at Houston Texans (7-6), HOU by 6 - Should be closer than the game looks, but Houston can handle the Jaguars. Houston Texans 21, Jacksonville Jaguars 19

New Orleans Saints (5-8) at Arizona Cardinals (5-7-1), ARZ by 2.5 - The Saints will put up points in this one and the Cardinals won't keep up. UPSET!!! NO Saints 27, Arizona Cardinals 23

San Francisco 49ers (1-12) at Atlanta Falcons (8-5), ATL by 13.5 - Child Please. Atlanta Falcons 31, SF Niners 21

Oakland Raiders (10-3) at San Diego Chargers (5-8), OAK by 3 - Raiders get a bounce back win over the Chargers. Oakland Raiders 28, SD Chargers 26

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5) at Cincinnati Bengals (5-7-1), PIT by 3.5 - Road division game makes this closer than it otherwise would be, but the Steelers won't lose this game with playoffs on the line. Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Cincy Bengals 20

Carolina Panthers (5-8) at Washington Redskins (7-5-1), WAS by 4.5 - Panthers are somewhat hard to figure out, but I don't think they have what it takes to win this road game. Washington Redskins 27, Carolina Panthers 24

GAME OF THE WEEK - New England Patriots (11-2) at Denver Broncos (8-5), New England - I don't see Denver being as good as people think they are. Their offense is putrid and the defense is on the field to much. New England in a rout.

THURSDAY NIGHT - Los Angeles Rams (4-9) at Seattle Seahawks (8-4-1), Seattle. Jeff Fisher could have broken the losses record this week, but alas he just got to tie it. The irony is so perfect.

Miami Dolphins (8-5) at New York Jets (4-9), Miami. The Jets suck and Revis island is now a vacation spot for opposing WRs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5) at Dallas Cowboys (11-2), Dallas. Bounce back game for the Cowboys. This should be a tight game and if Tampa pulls it out, expect the calls for Romo to really pick up.

Detroit Lions (9-4) at New York Giants (9-4), Detroit. I wholeheartedly know that the Lions will lose this game, but damn it, I just want one freaking division title. The funny part is, this game really means nothing unless the Lions beat Dallas the following week. The division is coming down to week 17 against Green Bay. I don't think Green Bay is some super team that can't be beat, but fuck if the Lions won't find a way to fall out of the playoffs.

Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) at Baltimore Ravens (7-6), Baltimore. Philly are like the opposite of Tennessee. Both have good young talent, but they are trending in different directions.

Green Bay Packers (7-6) at Chicago Bears (3-10), Green Bay. Chicago is better than their record, but they aren't as good as Green Bay. Weather could help Chicago a lot in this game. If the wind affects the passing game, than the Bears could have the advantage. I will take Jordan Howard over anyone the Packers are putting in the backfield.

Indianapolis Colts (6-7) at Minnesota Vikings (7-6), Indianapolis. The Vikings defense without Harrison Smith could open things up for the Colts passing attack. Specifically with their TEs. The question will be, can the Colts protect Luck long enough.

Cleveland Browns (0-13) at Buffalo Bills (6-7), Buffalo. I won't pick the Browns, but if Buffalo loses, will they fire Rex Ryan that night?

Tennessee Titans (7-6) at Kansas City Chiefs (10-3), Kansas City. Andy Reid gearing up for that Superbowl run. Just remember that I was early on this Chiefs bandwagon. Called it at the start of the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) at Houston Texans (7-6), Houston. I would rather be Jaggin Off.

New Orleans Saints (5-8) at Arizona Cardinals (5-7-1), New Orleans. Hell if I know. These teams are a toss up of underachievers.

San Francisco 49ers (1-12) at Atlanta Falcons (8-5), Atlanta. Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman may go for 300 yards in this game.

Oakland Raiders (10-3) at San Diego Chargers (5-8),Oakland. The better team wins this one. Oakland keeps themselves in the race for the division.

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5) at Cincinnati Bengals (5-7-1), Pittsburgh. The better team wins this one. Pittsburgh keeps their lead in the division.

Carolina Panthers (5-8) at Washington Redskins (7-5-1), Washington. I have given up on trusting the Panthers to come out of their funk.

If it's any consolation, even if the Lions lose the division and two of their last three games, they still have the inside track on the 6 seed.

I appreciate that, but for me, it is the division or bust. Watching them lose in the wild card round again is the same BS. Every team in the NFC has multiple division titles since the last time the Lions won 1. It's an insanely horrible drought.
