Chargers beat Broncos. WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW?!

Postby Everlong » Dec 12, '13, 10:34 pm

HOLY SHIT. San Diego beats Denver 27-20. Denver fans are suicidal. Everything is insane.

Just another reminder that ANYTHING can happen in the NFL.

Also, this is HUGE for the AFC playoff picture because now if the Patriots win this week, they take control of the race for the #1 seed. Absolutely HUGE.

Short week. No Welker. John Fox just returned. It was a must win for the Chargers. Lucky win.

This actually will make Denver pissed off and better so losing is just a blessing in disguise for them.

The Chargers were playing on a short week, too. And being without Welker really isn't that big of a deal with all the other receiving options they've got.

They were just plain flat, and the Chargers took advantage. Now the Broncos are going from Super Bowl favorites to "most likely to lose to New England in the AFC Championship."

I wouldn't put New England in the Super Bowl quite yet. Gronk gone, Thompkins hurt, Dobson hurt, inconsistent defense. Denver is still the favorite with New England and KC on their tails.

Pretty much every NFL team has one game where they either lose a game they have no business losing when they are good or have no business winning if they are bad. The Patriots have lost to the Jets, the Bengals lost to the Browns, the Colts have been destroyed by the Rams, the Chiefs also lost to the Chargers. This was just the Broncos turn to blow a game they should win.

Plus, I think you are underselling how big of an injury problem losing Gronkowski will be for a Patriots team that has also had injuries to an already weak defense. New England is far more likely to be one and done than to be in the Super Bowl this year. The Colts and Bengals provide a bigger threat to Denver in the playoffs, as do the Chiefs if they have their full compliment of pass rushers.

^Well I was being a bit hyperbolic about the Pats, but I don't think Gronk being out is as big of a problem as you're making it out to be. They certainly did well enough without him for most of this season so far, and the AFC playoff competition is going to be quite weak.

The Colts don't provide a threat to anyone right now the way that they're playing. They've looked pretty awful the last few weeks and are stumbling into the playoffs. I do think that the Bengals are looking dangerous, but do I trust them going to play on the road against New England? Not one bit.

At this point, it's simply between the Pats and Broncos in the AFC (with a SLIGHT chance for the Bengals) unless someone else gets hot suddenly, which I won't rule out given what we've seen the last few years. But if it does come down to Pats and Broncos and they're playing in New England, I don't trust the Broncos to be able to go into New England in a championship situation and crank out a win.

The Pats are completely different without Gronk. As for this loss Denver had, I was of the mindset that it meant a lot more to SD than to Denver, and it showed on the field.
