GAME OF THE WEEK – Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at Indianapolis Colts (0-1), IND by 3 – Interesting game. Two teams that have their pluses and their minuses but both share the same flaws - defense. Nick Foles looked ugly last week, holding onto the ball far too long and making mistakes that you cannot make as a third year player. Meanwhile Andrew Luck continues to struggle with interceptions when facing top flight competition but there is no denying he is a damn talented QB. I think I trust the Colts scheming on defense and a Luck-led offense more than I do Philly.
Indianapolis Colts 34, Philadelphia Eagles 24Detroit Lions (1-0) at Carolina Panthers (1-0), CAR by 2.5 – Carolina is a hard team to get a good picture on because you don't know with their running game and Kelvin Benjamin out, not to mention Olsen at tight end. But Detroit matches up with them extremely well and Carolina's offensive line will not be able to handle the Lions' front four. Wouldn't surprise me if this got ugly, especially with Newton's rust.
UPSET Detroit Lions 26, Carolina Panthers 10Miami Dolphins (1-0) at Buffalo Bills (1-0), MIA by 1 – I think the Bills' win last week says more about Chicago's incompetence than anything about Buffalo's quality as a team. After seeing what Miami's pass rush did to Tom Brady and co. last year, I don't trust EJ Manuel enough to give them the win here.
Miami Dolphins 23, Buffalo Bills 13Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) at Washington Redskins (0-1), WAS by 6 – Washington Redskins suck. Robert Griffin III is struggling to identify the coverage being thrown at him. But they have what Jacksonville lacks and that is consistent playmakers. I think RG3 will have a good enough game to fend off a young, hungry Jacksonville team.
Washington Redskins 24, Jacksonville Jaguars 20Dallas Cowboys (0-1) at Tennessee Titans (1-0), TEN by 3.5 – The only hope the Dallas Cowboys had as a team this year was Tony Romo. So much for that. Still, this is a tough game to predict. Tennessee looked really good last week but I can't envision Romo playing that awful two weeks in a row. Going to go out on a limb and say Dallas takes this game, but I'm not positive.
UPSET Dallas Cowboys 28, Tennessee Titans 27Arizona Cardinals (1-0) at New York Giants (0-1), NYG by 1 - Should be a fun, LOL-worthy game with Drew Stanton vs. Eli Manning. If this was any other team in the NFC (sans the St. Louis Rams and possibly the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), I would go with them but the New York Giants just don't seem to know what the hell they are doing on a football field. Cardinals are missing a lot of guys in the front seven though and while I don't trust Eli Manning at all, they are at home. When in doubt, always side with the home team.
New York Giants 14, Arizona Cardinals 10New England Patriots (0-1) at Minnesota Vikings (1-0), NE by 3 – It would not surprise me at all if New England lost. Zimmer's Minnesota defense is going to apply pressure and apply it often. However, I don't think they will be able to make enough plays on offense for it to matter. Will be a close one, though.
New England Patriots 20, Minnesota Vikings 17New Orleans Saints (0-1) at Cleveland Browns (0-1), NO by 6.5 – Cleveland's defense looked pathetic last week and Drew Brees and Sean Payton do not lose back-to-back games often. I will go with New Orleans to go to 1-1 and keep pace with Atlanta and Carolina.
New Orleans Saints 31, Cleveland Browns 16Atlanta Falcons (1-0) at Cincinnati Bengals (1-0), CIN by 5 – This should be a great game! Fantastic match-up on both sides of the ball. However, I still don't trust Atlanta's defense and they won't be at home this week. Give me the always consistent Cincinnati Bengals.
Cincinnati Bengals 23, Atlanta Falcons 21 St. Louis Rams (0-1) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1), TB by 5 – Josh McCown is an awful quarterback. How he got the starting job in Tampa Bay with little to no competition, I have no idea. I do know the St. Louis Rams are an awful football team too, which means this game will be filled with high levels of unmatched incompetence. But when in doubt, you know what to do...
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16, St. Louis Rams 14 Seattle Seahawks (1-0) at San Diego Chargers (0-1), SEA by 5.5 – For some odd reason, Philip Rivers plays up to his competition every single time and San Diego plays the type of football that it takes to beat them. They run the ball and under Mike McCoy have been good at protecting the ball and controlling the clock. Seattle is a filthy team, they are crazy good. But I'm feeling lucky and going to go with the Super Chargers.
UPSET San Diego Chargers 24, Seattle Seahawks 20Houston Texans (1-0) at Oakland Raiders (0-1), HOU by 3 – JJ Watt.
Houston Texans 21, Oakland Raiders 14New York Jets (1-0) at Green Bay Packers (0-1), GB by 8.5 – New York Jets play a brand of football that Green Bay seems to always struggle against. Physical on offense (w/ a mobile QB) and an amazing front seven led by Wilkerson and Richardson. It's going to be close but I don't think Green Bay will start 0-2 when they are playing at home. Wouldn't shock me if they did, though.
Green Bay Packers 26, New York Jets 20Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) at Denver Broncos (1-0), DEN by 13.5 – Andy Reid is such a stubborn head coach. How do you barely utilize Jamaal Charles?!
Denver Broncos 33, Kansas City Chiefs 14Chicago Bears (0-1) at San Francisco 49ers (1-0), SF by 7 – Jay Cutler with a banged up Marshall and Jeffery?
San Francisco 49ers 30, Chicago Bears 20
