FIFA's corruption exposed - shit may go down

Postby PorkChop » Jun 01, '14, 5:33 am

http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... bin-hammam

Emails have been leaked showing a ton of payments from FIFA's executive member from Qatar, so that the 2022 World Cup would be held in his country. People are calling for the voting process to be done again.

This basically confirms what we knew anyway - we knew FIFA were corrupt and take bribes behind the scenes, but it's big news that it's come to light.

It's just confirming what everyone already knows. I'd expect it to be swiftly swept under the rug, excuses to be made, someone will probably get fired to save face, but nothing will bloody change.

Well this would explain how fucking Qatar got a World Cup.

I doubt anyone is surprised, but having this confirmation makes it clearer than ever than ever that FIFA is a corrupt group of scumbags.

Does FIFA even answer to anyone including the courts? I know Australia was threatening to sue for their money back so would this give them legal grounds?

Anyways the Qatar bribes were so obvious a blind man could see it. Money speaks more than anything and it's why a country with multiple rights issues and slave like working conditions and is essentially a fucking desert could EVER get an event like the World Cup. And Russia isn't much better. Not that places like Canada, the UK, USA and Australia don't have their own dark pasts and shortcomings but Qatar's are just so obvious and blatant and they don't care.

Qatar say Hammam wasn't working for them so assume they'll use that as justification and a defence to brush aside these rumours.

Looks like the awarding of Qatar 2022 was doomed from the start. Another way and more realistic way to get this awarding reversed would be for the remaining nations to pursue legal recourse as the bids were prepared for a summer WC, not a Winter one but they don't seem as interested in doing that, probably due to cost.
