It was just easier to say that they weren't voting for Hillary because she was more corrupt than Trump or because she was more of an establishment choice. It was a less controversial argument. It made it seem like they might almost have a leg to stand on.
That being said, Trump has always been more crooked than Hillary - not that the title isn't appropriate for her also. And while Hillary was undeniably the establishment choice, it was pretty apparent all through the campaigns that Trump was always going to put his business interests first. Anyone with half a brain could have seen through his "man of the people" act, if that's even what it was.
I'm not saying that everyone who voted for him was a bigot, but
many of them were. And we'll find out the exact amount in 2020, because the way things are going, there won't be any other logical reason to vote for him by then.
