Well I don't know how many more times we need to have these threads, we've stated over and over again that people don't need to comment on everything :lol

One of the traits we have at PCW is that people don't have to comment if they don't want too. If someone would rather just contribute by way of writing then power to them, I don't think we should be pressuring anyone into commenting and I think we should quash the myth that people have to comment - if we start imposing regulations (however unofficial) it'd stop people enjoying the game.

People don't have to do anything and that's great, except that the enjoyment of the fed is increased by the community and people having some idea if people give a crap about what they're writing. I don't think we need to impose sanctions for people not commenting though.

But there are periodically threads like these about getting more people to read and comment so obviously some people care. It's strange that all some people wanna do is write though, they could just write on their own if they just wanted to write.

At some point we'll just have to come to the realization that most people don't care to read much or comment. We'll just have to live with it or shut it down.

Uh, what?

There seems to always be people trying to find ways to get more people to read the shows and comment on them, going back to when we were Mods of WCSF. The fact seems to be that it's impossible to get sustained increased comments, this has been proven as time goes on.

What I meant was that people may have to accept that we won't be able to get more comments. Hell one of the reasons we all left as WCSF Mods was that it's hard to work to come up with storylines and then have very little way to get feedback. The same could happen to these Mods.

For the most part Tim & SKS usually take highlights from Onslaught and create a separate topic for it where some people who don't comment on the discussion will answer that question, so that might balance it out some.

I think WCSF was a bit too strict with the need to have a certain amount of comments for every show. That's not a PCW thing. Our roster is bigger than it's ever been and everybody's writing - people clearly still want to participate in the game and that's the important thing. That's why PCW was started up in the first place, to give people the chance to continue writing and have fun in a sim fed again. If you don't want to write anymore because people aren't commenting on your stuff, then feel free to leave. It's as simple as that really.

The only thing that really frustrates me is if someone involved in PCW doesn't try to keep up by at least reading the Quick Results. That's the only requirement I really have.

And that's a good idea in theory. But even with those threads, there aren't many responses.

This is one of my pet peeves too. Most of those side threads get anywhere between 3-5 responses. Surely most writers in the fed should be able to take 30 seconds and comment on a specific question? Yet there's usually only a few responses. In my opinion these threads should be easier to post in than the full show discussion.

While it would be nice to see more comments on shows and side threads, i think the important thing is that we're all writing great stuff and we've gotten alot better when it comes to getting things in on time, which is great.

I want to reiterate that I don't want sanctions or people not commenting to be punished. I just enjoy reading people's thoughts on not only my stuff but everybody else's as well and wish more people would do it. I think it just helps grow the camaraderie between the PCW'ers and everyone gets to know others like and dislikes.

Whilst I agree with you, I don't think it's right to try and police people into commenting. Pressuring people into commenting is a sure-fire way of lessening someone's enjoyment of the fed and turning a fun hobby into an actual chore. For me the important thing is the group of us putting on a series of awesome shows and doing our best to abide by the date's set to turn our shit in (something we've all been very good at since day one).

Like I said, I don't want punishment. I'm just trying to encourage people to comment in the show threads or the other threads. I think it helps contribute to the fed's longevity and enjoyment. If not, that's fine too, they can to continue to lurk in the shadows :P

I know you don't want to punish people for commenting but continuously asking people to comment is probably just as bad. No one wants to get nagged. People have busy schedules, they may not be good at writing comments, just don't want to comment, or something else. If you keep bothering people that don't comment by telling them to comment, more likely than not it won't help the cause and will just annoy them. As long as people get their stuff in on time and the content is there I don't see a problem with minimal comments. We shouldn't "shut it down" just because a few people are upset that only a few people comment on the shows because it's just stupid, IMO, to punish those that want to write but don't comment. It was one of the things that brought WCSF down because instead of focusing on the writing and producing the show I felt the mod team cared way too much about people commenting. Waiting for 3 pages of comments felt like an eternity and it was why I lost interest after a while. I just wanted to write, to be honest I don't care if someone wants to comment or not, if they do than great, if not then who cares. No one should feel obligated to do anything but write their stuff assigned.

Simmer down, other than this thread it's barely been mentioned at all. It's not like people are harassing people every week to comment like you seem to believe.

And since you seem to have latched on to my "shut it down" comment with a deathgrip, let me clarify so everyone can understand. I don't want the Mods to shut it down, I don't think they should shut it down, I never want to see it shut down. I'm trying to make the point as someone who has Modded the game for a long period, it can become frustrating when you work hard to put together shows and then you see 3 or 4 comments, it makes you feel like no one cares. Not saying that's the case now, but at some point if this continues, I think it could potentially be.

Re: Do you read the shows?

Postby Everlong » Jul 13, '14, 12:27 pm

Whoah, this blew up :lol Allow me to give my thoughts here.

For me, while I definitely enjoy writing the stuff (it's a great creative outlet), a majority of the enjoyment I get out of this is the community surrounding it. I could write all of this stuff just for myself if I wanted to; the point of having the game is to create a community. When nobody says anything, there's no community. That's why we did as much as we could to try to create discussion in WCSF, and that's why I keep making these side threads for each show (which also get very little discussion).

There comes a point for me where it no longer becomes worth the effort if the community is dead. That's why I dropped out of WCSF, and that'll probably be why I wind up dropping out of PCW at some point. I'm enjoying writing and reading the shows, but when only about 25% of the fed is regularly saying anything, it feels like I'm in the minority with that, and I may as well concentrate on other writing that I'm trying to do.

I'm not saying that you force people into posting discussion or anything, I guess I just wanted to know what people's motivations are for not saying anything.

See, that's where we have our differences. In your opinion the community is dead if only a few people are commenting on the shows. For me, the community won't be dead until almost everybody doesn't want to write anymore. And since that doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon, my enthusiasm is still in good shape.

I can respect this, but give it time. I know how much effort goes into modding and booking this stuff, and you'll be amazed at how quickly it can get sucked out of you.

As long as people are still having fun, then that's the most important thing. But for me personally, I probably won't be around for an extremely long time if we would keep the current pace of comments into the future.

Overreacting to what? It just seems that you and Brett are being very pessimistic about the future of PCW with the comments that you're making about no one commenting, so I gave my opinion as to why I don't think the amount of people commenting on shows matters IF all the stuff is still being written and sent in on time, and if people are enjoying themselves. People could just enjoy writing and reading the show to themselves. If people don't want to comment, it doesn't mean that no one cares about PCW.

You seem to think you're being nagged at every turn when, as far as I can remember, this is the only time this topic has ever been brought up on the PCW forums. You also seem to be obsessed with Brett's offhand "shut it down" comment, when he wasn't even close to suggesting that the fed get shut down :lol

Also, to suggest that mod policy brought down WCSF is 1) revisionist history and 2) pretty offensive actually, considering how hard we worked to drag that thing along in its dying days. People stopped talking, there was a greater issue with no-shows, writers were dropping out.

Why should I "simmer down" when I'm just getting my point across? I'm just speaking my mind. Not trying to be offensive. When you say something like get used to non comments or shut it down, (whether you believe it will or not) it makes it seem like you think PCW will eventually shut down to lack of comments. I hope that's not the case and nothing has led me to believe it will be. I really don't know why it was even brought up as the mods haven't complained (have they?), Kaiser said in this thread he enjoys what he does and making comments aren't an issue. If it potentially happens, then what does it matter now if all things suggest the opposite? Until the mods have a problem then I don't see why it's a big deal, and last I checked, non of the mods have complained, and I feel like this argument/idea of no one commenting is pointless.

No, the mods haven't said anything about it. I made the topic myself, because I was curious to see the response. Clearly a majority of people are reading the shows, and I guess I"m in the minority when I say that comments are important. I don't understand why you're so upset about this :lol
