What year is it?

Just a year ago, Vince McMahon's big, muscular, hand-picked new babyface star fought for the WWE championship at Wrestlemania for the very first time.

One year later, he's looking to cement his status as the new top guy by main eventing Wrestlemania once more. But he's not getting over the way he might have hoped. He's being pushed down the fans throats and they resent him for it. He's getting booed everywhere he goes.

It's a good thing that his Wrestlemania opponent is the world class heel, Triple H. He should be able to put most of the heat on himself and find a way to get this upcoming prospect cheered by at least the majority of the fans.

Too bad Triple H has begun to pander to the fans in an attempt to get cheers, even though he's supposed to be the villain. Looks like he's only making things worse.

I wonder who Triple H will face in the main event of Wrestlemania 42. I really hope we don't have to put up with a decade of Reigns as top guy in order to find out.

Seriously though, HHH, Shane McMahon, and The Undertaker are co-main eventing WM in 2016. WTF?! Add in the fact that we all know Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michael's, and Ric Flair will all be there in a non-hall of fame role. Ric Flair gets a pass because his role makes sense. If they open Mania with another nostalgia promo, then I am out. Nostalgia is fine the first 10 times they did it, now I just know I can wait till next year and it will happen again.

Along with it being sad that Triple H is still main eventing after all these years, it's depressing that after suffering through the Cena years we are now in the exact same place that we were 10 years ago. Stuck with another new guy getting shoved down our throats even though he's not clicking (and it's worse this time around). No sign of things getting better ahead, and a distinct possibility that he could be top guy for a decade too.

To be fair I don't believe Triple H was planned to be in the main event or World Champion this year. The rash of injuries, especially the Rollins one, fucked up their plans. I believe it was going to be Triple H vs Rollins and Reigns vs Lesnar again.

Even if it wasn't reported in the dirtsheets, I feel like it would have been Reigns vs Rollins vs Ambrose. That would have been epic, too bad Rollins got injured.

Also @Hanley! with HHH being heavily involved in running the company, there legitimately IS a good chance he could be main eventing WM in 10 years... actually, a higher likelihood for him than just about anyone else in the company at this point given what turnover looks like in a 10 year span!

Going for 2016 as I can't remember 2006 - wrestling wise anyway, think it was the start of the end of my full time WWE programming. Remind me though, what was happening at Mania in 2006 - was it Lashley?

As noted injuries have messed up plans and tbf, Vince was going to go for stable hands than creativity so HHH was that man to hold the fort. HHH could win because doubt they'd want to give the strap to Reigns if he starts affecting numbers as Champion.

Lashley was being groomed for the Reigns spot, but thankfully he left the company before that could materialize.
