Are they trying to make it Brock/WWE and not Brock/Reigns?

In Paul Heyman's amazing promo on Raw he went off and came right out and said that if Brock wanted to go and "Unify the WWE and UFC titles" he would, he also made it out like WWE might try and "Montreal Screwjob" Brock and if they did he "would kill everyone involved".

It almost seems like they are trying to transition from focusing on Reigns onto Lesnar being the "sellout" who will potentially walk out on the company with the title. Maybe they think that Reigns being positioned as the defender of WWE will help get him over.

Anybody else notice this?

If this is a way for them to try and get Reigns a big face reaction by proxy then it's staggeringly stupid. Making him the face of WWE in their war against Lesnar will not help him. The fans are conditioned - from years of being mistreated and more importantly from years of heel authority figures - to think of the WWE as the bad guy. If it's at war with one of its wrestlers, fans will be predisposed to cheer for the wrestler and not the company.

Though I think you might be reading too much into it. I reckon Heyman was just doing what WWE tends to do when their booking has been crap: have someone cut a semi-shoot promo to get people's attention again. Heyman is basically trying to make this feud work by himself, with nothing to help him but a microphone. Scattering in some shoot elements, and references to real life contract disputes between Lesnar and Vince, is a good way to distract fans from how much the feud itself has sucked and will continue to suck.

How would it work if Reigns is defending WWE but against the Authority who run WWE? He's not a wrestler's wrestler so it won't even work if he's defending wrestling at it's core. The lengths at which they are going to try and attempt to get Reigns over makes it even more obvious that he's the wrong guy to face Brock at Mania.

Yes, but with the lack of fan support for reigns who is fighting as the babyface (fuck i hate that term) wwe could be trying to depush lesner. They have built him in this run with the company in a way that the fans are somewhat behind him. He does not get the reaction that the top heel of the company should be getting. By reminding the fans that he dont give a shit and making it seem like he has no respect for them just adds a little distance between him and reigns on the kayfabe good evil meter.

This is why I hope Lesner loses his title ether have him win and Seth cashes in or have Roman win the title straight up.

Its alot easier to get behind the WWE as a brand than it is to get behind Reigns so if Reigns just happens to be the one representing WWE in the match peope might get more interested?

I dunno, that might be what they're going for, but if so then they've misread the situation entirely. People hate 2015's version of the WWE more than they hate Reigns. As the guy they're pushing in spite of the wishes of the fans, he's just the figure head of the company right now - the easiest person to boo to let the company know that fans aren't happy. It's his status as the company's chosen representative that has made him unpopular in the first place. Trying to cement that status in a storyline will make him less popular if anything.
