I've heard completely opposing reports about this. The first said that Cena broke it off due to cold feet, the second said that Nikki broke it off. Impossible to know what's true at this point. But I do feel bad for them, if they're hurting. Breaking up isn't easy, and as such a public couple that must add an extra level of embarrassment.
It does make the Wrestlemania 33 proposal an even worse idea in hindsight. They held back on putting Cena in a match that could actually draw, so they could deliver a "Wrestlemania moment" with his proposal. But now the moment won't survive. They're not going to include it in video packages and DVDs now that the two have split up.
If your real-life proposal is pre-planned for television, I think that speaks to a fundamental problem with a relationship anyway. It's hard enough for famous couples to stay together, but when your relationship itself is being used for the entertainment of others, it has to be harder to figure out how much of the relationship is real.
