I think you stumbled upon a massive problem there Brett.

How so? You don't think they should have something for everyone?

It would not be that hard to do it. Have Rock vs Triple H for the casuals and older viewers, have something like Daniel Bryan vs Cesaro, Wyatt, Rollins, Ambrose, etc, for the smark faithful.

When has anything outside of very few exceptions been thoroughly entertaining and had something for everyone?

Should I only pay 3 pounds for my bit or?

Arguably previous "eras" have been much more consistent and maybe successful because they didn't try to offer something for everyone.

He gets passionate, he gets angry and he digs in harder against anybody that's trying to take away who he is and stays true to it. Call it corny or whatever, but the thing that pisses you off about John Cena is the same thing that in a lot of ways inspires me. It's easy to bend to the pressure to change it's much harder to stay true to who you are and I enjoy seeing someone doing that and inspiring others to do that as well. I relate to it by wanting to be able to do more of it and find more of that strength to do it myself more of the time.

Yeah, and that's why he makes a good role model. But I don't think he makes a good character. You have to see the character struggling to make his perseverance seem really effecting to your average viewer.

I'll always respond to a character who's courageous in spite of being afraid, more than a character who's simply fearless. That's my major problem with Cena. They talk about him "overcoming" stuff all the time, but it feels like as a character, he never has to struggle.

The Legend wrote:To be frank on this point, I've stopped giving a damn or even noticing how half the crowd reacts to something because I've realized that they don't watch professional wrestling the same way those people do. What I'll care about is the result will excite me. It will make me mark for the moment, because to me the story is still the most important part.

I believe for me that the most enjoyable way to watch pro wrestling is to buy in. It's to care about the story they are telling and to play along with how they are expecting the crowd to react to a story. That doesn't mean I don't have my personal favorites or that I can't even appreciate the work of a particularly talented heel. I can appreciate it and I do, but while the match is going on rarely do I want to see them actually win.

Okay, that's fair enough. That's talking about things from your specific standpoint. This is what you want to see, regardless of what anyone else wants. And that makes sense.

But in this same thread you've talked about what makes sense from a purely business standpoint. So from a business standpoint, can you see how Cena beating Rusev doesn't make sense?

They've almost always tried to put something out there for everyone. I'm not saying it was always successful or that everything worked, because it sure as hell didn't. Why do you think they continue to bring Taker and Brock and Rock and Batista and whoever back? Because they think it pulls in people who might not tune in on the regular.

If people aren't into the old stuff, they've got a roster full of young, hungry people on the roster who are on the shows too, from Ambrose/Reigns/Rollins to the Wyatts and Bryan. They want a good mix of veterans and young talent to worm together to hopefully bring all those fans in instead of only some. They want some of the people tuning in to see Rock going "hey, this Dean Ambrose guy is pretty cool, I like him".
