I liked Rock/Cena WM28. I was surprised that so many people disliked it.

Their match at WM 29 lacked the same atmosphere and relied too heavily on false finishes.

Monsoon had a far better announcing voice, but otherwise I don't think the gap is as wide. Monsoon miscalled his fair share of moves or action in the ring. I feel like Cole would be seen a lot better if he didn't have JBL, King, and to a lesser extent Booker, constantly going off-topic and in JBL's case, being overly argumentative and making out-of-date references. Ventura would argue with Monsoon, but it was always related to the action in the ring and the performers motives.

Cole isn't that terrible, I think a lot of the hate he gets is because he was unfortunate enough to replace JR, who was beloved as the main voice behind the greatest boom period the company ever had. I don't think Cole is great though, put it this way, I don't think he helps the product be better than it is. I feel like JR could raise the quality of a match, which Cole is unable to do.

Cole is great. His work on SmackDown was believable and he actually seemed to care. At some point however, Cole got talked to by Vince and he just never was the same.

@Str8Shooter

My bad. I just don't see the comparison. Take the NWO out of WCW and you've got a huge gaping hole to fill. Take DX out of the attitude era and you've got an attitude era without DX.

@Messiah

I liked the first match between Cena & Rock. Nothing out of this world but the finish was good. The sequel? Not so much.

I hate false finish matches generally. When a match is just 20 finishers and some crawling, I will never like it. It makes for bad storytelling and bad pacing. Which is the reason so many big face vs face Wrestlemania matches have bugged me over the last several years. Undertaker's matches with HBK and HHH were guilty of this, but Rock/Cena was the worst offender. They took it to laughable proportions in those matches.

I don't like crawl fests either. I think HBK and Taker did it right. They both told the story of them being old relics of a bygone era who were giving it their all. It was paced fine and the use of the finishers was appropriate. It's very hard to find the right balance. Having two athletic guys like Rock & Cena do it however is laughable.

Re: Unpopular Opinions

Here's one that will be really unpopular. I agree with Eric Bischoff about Chris Jericho. The guy works well as a midcarder, but he doesn't work in the main event and should never have been used in the main event. He doesn't have the right look, he doesn't have enough presence. He's just not that guy.

He's also just overrated as a performer if you ask me. He's not a great talker. He's a great wrestler, though not one of the best ever or anything. The reputation he has today is above and beyond what his abilities actually merit. And if it wasn't for Vince's pimping out of his own daughter on television, he'd never have become as big as he was. Most of his stuff from back in the Attitude Era is kinda cringe-worthy right now. But it got him over then because he was using naughty words, which obviously made the kids and teens love him (worked on me at the time too).

The feud with Michaels was also mostly boring, and at times didn't even make sense. It had its moments, but went for far too long without the material to merit it. The ladder match wasn't one of the better ones I've seen.

Also, this part isn't an unpopular opinion but it deserves to be said: during his SRS heel run, he could not stop using his long words in the wrong context. :lol The word 'hypocrite' has never been bastardised more frequently.

Jericho was fantastic. His mic/in-ring work were top tier IMO. His recent shit has been terrible. I wasn't big on his heel run either...very repetitive.

Triple H vs Undertaker at WrestleMania 27 and 28 were both shite, particularly the latter. Absolutely unbearable.

CM Punk's ring work was vastly overrated.

Roman Reigns isn't that bad. He gets a lot of shit because it's become fashionable to hate him.

Kelly Kelly was far more entertaining than basically every other diva during her run in WWE. This includes Beth Phoenix, who was shite.

Dean Ambrose's gimmick and ring work aren't particularly interesting. Aside from his mic work, I don't see the big deal.

^^ I'll go one step further and say that Ambrose's mic work hasn't been good either. It was okay when he was with the Shield. It's awful now. People used to say he'd be the breakout star of the Shield, but he looks like the worst of them to me. Yes, worse than Reigns too. Though I admit that his awful material for promos and his failure to win a single big match since the Shield broke up means that the situation is largely out of his hands.

I still think he's better than Reigns. Reigns I thought would be the project and the slow developer who would eventually join Ambrose and Rollins at the top. To be honest with you, this is how I rank the three:

Rollins

[gap]

Ambrose
Reigns

I don't see how Ambrose is better than Wade Barret, Wyatt, Mizdow, any of those guys. He's just not.
