WWE interested in AJ Styles?

WWE officials have reportedly changed their thoughts on signing former TNA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles.

AJ is the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion and considers New Japan Pro Wrestling to be home, and is under contract, but WWE is interested in signing him. WWE is looking to have three touring brands in 2016 and want to load up on as much quality talent as they can.

You think there's any chance we see a new AJ in WWE? That would be surreal.

I dont like the idea that WWE would modify his persona and character so much that it would be a total different person. I doubt AJ would sign anything about him or his character over to WWE, and we all know if wwe cant own it they dont want it.

I don't think the WWE would modify his persona or character. They didn't even do that with Balor or Itami. They simply changed their name because eventually, they will move on to the main roster.

If Styles was signed, it is likely to provide more star power to NXT ala Samoa Joe. Joe kept his name and still is allowed to work the indies, which includes wrestling for ROH. Styles would probably be offered a similar kind of deal.

With that said, as amazing of a pick-up as this would be, NXT is struggling as is providing an in-depth character/personality to some of the wrestlers they have right now like Balor. I would rather them continue to improve with what they have before bringing in someone like Styles.

Lost in this is that WWE apparently wants a third touring brand? What exactly does that mean?

I think it just means that they want to have NXT touring more often. This is now being viewed as a popular enough show to sell on its own.

Personally, I don't have any respect for wrestling promotions that aren't interested in Styles. He's quite possibly the best wrestler in the world at the moment. He belongs in the conversation at the very least. I'd like to see him tussle with some of the guys in NXT for sure. But I'm not sure it'd be the best place for him - he'd likely be used better in Japan and/or Ring of Honor. Seems like he's been doing well for himself since leaving TNA.

As awesome as this would be, it would have to be a pretty damn good deal. Styles makes some damn good money in Japan right now and wrestles in much bigger venues then NXT. With that said, I bet he would be intrigued by the idea of coming over to WWE and wrestling Joe, Zayn, Itami, Balor, and Owens. I bet the idea of wrestling Breeze is even pretty intriguing from a creative stand point.
