How many more free months can the WWE offer for the Network?

Postby Messiah » Apr 13, '15, 8:47 am

We're in April and the WWE is doing yet another free month. Extreme Rules will be free for everyone to see. This is what, their third free month this year? They did it in February, they had a week where it was free in March, they had Survivor Series free, they had countless free months before that.

Now look, as a person who is subscribed to the WWE Network, I find this to be a little bit of a rip-off considering we still have to pay during these months. Why don't they just offer a free month trial for everyone? If people didn't feel obligated to subscribe after the first of many free months, why would they now? Why would anyone sign-up if you are going to offer a free month every other month?

I can't think of many companies that have marketed something just as poorly as the WWE has done with the WWE Network.

Good point, the least they could do is not charge people who are subscribed already for that month. That's just dumb.

They'll keep doing it until people decide to buy the damn thing :P

I was under the impression that those with subscriptions got the month free as well? I thought it was their way of keeping those people who may have bought the Network just for WM. Quite annoying to know that's not the case.

Its nothing more then a way to look good in front of investors. They also talk about their subscription numbers, but never mention their retention numbers. Not that I would expect they would. They took a pretty large hit in stock price after sub numbers came out post mania. So I imagine they are doing this to boost sub's and increase stock holder confidence.

What else could they do to get more subscribers though really? They already have every PPV ever and loads of other On Demand content from the past. They have NXT and all the Live PPV's. And it's reasonably priced.

If people don't want it with all of that included, what else could possibly get them to sign up?

I'm signed up already, but since you asked. I've been waiting since the Network began for them to update with every RAW and SD episode from the past and maybe even Nitro as well. A few years ago I had come up with the idea that I wanted to follow RAW from the beginning andwatch all the shows plus the PPV's. Before the Network came along I had to try to find everything on Youtube. Then the Network came along and I thought it would be easier, except they didn't put them all in there and now they don't allow anyone on Youtube to have them either. I've waited all this time and they still don't have every RAW episode in the queue, which is really annoying.

So there you go, that's something they could do to make things easier.

Well good news, they added all the Raws from 1998 today :P

There is definitely old Raws and SD's and Nitro's and Thunders they could add. They clearly don't want to add them all at once though, they want to stagger them so there is always something new being added. On one hand I get that but on the other I'm not sure sure that's the best strategy.

See to me they don't need to stagger it. I mean it would take anybody years to get through all of the old stuff if they so chose. So people like that you are going to keep around a while.

Re: How many more free months can the WWE offer for the Network?

Given the month is only free for new subscribers, it's basically just incentive to sign up. Existing members don't get the month for free, so they lose no money there, and they probably figure the added amount of new recruits is worth not taking that one month of pay off the fraction of those that would have signed up in the month anyway.

Really, it's just a free month trial. Just like Netflix offers. But WWE can't just give people a trial for a month whenever they sign up. Because everybody would just sign up for Wrestlemania. And lots of people would then cancel afterwards. That's what they're trying to avoid.

They do have to stagger the additions, only because if they wanted to add all at once we would be waiting years for everything to be converted to digital format and edited/remastered.

They stagger the release dates because (my assumption) they have divided there library into certain groups based on age and content. Whenever one group of items is finished with the conversions is when they get released.

I subscribed in January when the UK finally got it, as a result they gave me that month free, they then gave me February free too as a result of being a new subscriber.
Since then I have had to pay, and I expect to pay, the free month is for NEW subscribers, they are doing what they have to do to get more subscribers, how can anyone be annoyed at this.

Its more or less join and get a month free.

Do you guys just use a prepaid credit card and only pay for the PPV's you want? Other than the PPV's and NXT I have zero use for the network.

Wait, so subscribers pay for this month and non-subscribers don't?

It not surprised most companies like NetFlix give months free so I am not surprised they do that, they should just make the first month free for all new subscribers from now on then just giving up random months here and there.

Yeah, I really don't understand why WWE is getting so slammed for this or people think they are the only ones doing it. Cell phone and cable TV companies are notorious for giving out introductory deals. In the search of new business many places at least in the US treat new customers better than their existing customers. It's just the way it is.

I really don't see the problem here. It's a free trial. Free trials are good business, and they're beneficial to both customer and company. What exactly about this set-up isn't right? I know WWE made a number of fuck-ups in marketing and rolling out the Network, but I really don't think this is one of them.

I have the feeling that maybe some of you think that people can not sign up and just keep availing of all the free months. As far as I understand it, that's not the way it works. To sign up, you need to give your credit card information. So if you cancel once the free month is over and try to register again next time, I'm pretty sure you have to pay the same as everybody else.

I was actually mistaken. I thought they still had it where you get the free month even if you didn't sign up. I logged out of my account and realized that wasn't the case - you need to subscribe to get the free month.

Nothing to see here.
