I think remakes of games just for the sake of improving the graphics are kinda cynical and pointless really ... unless you go back quite a few years. I mean, it's really not going to make that big a difference to Grand Theft Auto 5. I wouldn't buy a HD remake of Red Dead Redemption, even though I think it's probably the best game of the last generation. It'd feel like throwing money away.
But if you go back far enough and find a game that could look completely different nowadays, therefore making a huge difference to the atmosphere, then I'd be interested.
Fans have been asking for a remake of Final Fantasy 7 for years now, and even though I'm not the biggest Final Fantasy fan in the world, I'd be really interested in playing that if they released it. And this is coming from someone who hasn't bothered with any of the Final Fantasy releases since the Playstation 1.
Since the success of REmake, lots of fans have wanted remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 in the same style. In a survival horror game, the improved visuals really make a huge difference to atmosphere, so I'd love to play a modern remake of those games. REmake is still one of my favourite games of all time.
But top of my list would probably be a remake of Medievil. I think that kind of fantasy world could look gorgeous if done properly nowadays. And a good puzzle platformer would be a breath of fresh air in the industry at the moment.
