Bloodborne

Postby Kein » Jun 16, '14, 3:56 pm

New "souls type" game meant for PS4. Set for Spring 2015.

It's not a souls story, but it shares the similar mechanics of a souls game. They are working on making it more scary, more dark, and much much more intense. I am excited, but like all new games I always have my skepticism in me.

I don't have a PS4, but there are a handful of games that I want and will eventually buy one for, this is one of them.

Anyone else notice this game and is interested in it?

How about the remastering of The Last Of Us? Truly, a GOAT game. Image

Any trailers or other information on this game?

This is Project Beast right? I kept an eye on it for a while, loved Dark Souls 1 and 2 so I'll definitely give this a purchase when I eventually get a PS4.

I got the last of us on PS3, so no need to buy it again.

Yes, this is the aforementioned Project Beast.

THREAD REVIVAL.

Bloodborne is out, my pr-order came in yesterday. 5 hours in and it is very fun. I can't say it is not overly difficult, but that is coming from an avid souls fan. I am sure newcomers find it plenty hard.

Very fast paced, but a lot of things seem convoluted and confusing. Lore wise and mechanics wise, things just aren't explained.

Invasions are different this time around, but I look forward to dabbling in it soon.

Someone else play this game so I can talk about it plz.

Oh hell yeah! I'm a huge fan of Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. I never bought Dark Souls 2, I heard they really screwed the pooch on it, regardless of the high reviews it got. I'll wait a couple of months and see what gamer reception this game gets. I'm done throwing my money away for shitty games they buy hype and reviews for. Although I have no reason to doubt this will be great.

Dark souls 2 was not bad, but if you are comparing it to the other two it does have some major drawbacks and "what were they thinking" moments. I could go on and on about it, but it still served its purpose and I enjoyed the good hours on it.

Bloodborne probably won't be one of those shitty games. It kind of caters to all parties who want a difficult game in a sense. It is hard in itself, you can make it easier by summoning allies, or specific allies from your friends list if it's a lil too rough. However summoning friends also opens the window to being invaded, but if you never try summoning, you will never be invaded. Then there is also the invasion mechanic which doesn't open the door to summons, and just goes all out invading those who want help, or others who want to invade.

It's cool because the summoning mechanic is a bell you ring. So essentially strangers are looking for a chime to help, where invaders are listening for a chime to prey upon. It's a really neat design! Just be careful what you ask for.

Blood splatters are almost the same, sometimes a random monster can pick up your blood and you have to kill him to get your dropped exp back.

The parry system is fast paced, and the ammo makes it count. Back stabs are strong, but hard to set up, probably not pvp viable, so you won't be dealing with circle fights during pvp. I'd be surprised if lag could even help someone pull off a backstab in pvp. This is all about the parry tactic.

Level design is amazing. Dark Souls 2 was bland in level design, Demons souls was linear, Dark souls did it right. Bloodborne capitalizes on Dark Souls and makes the level more compact, more circles and multiple routes to the end. This means the invader can run in one direction and come at you from another, and it will be extremely exciting.

Trying to learn more about Beast form. Could be interesting mechanic.

Weapon upgrades are similar, you can also gem items, and remove the gems you put in. Adds a lil more optimization to your builds since weapons aren't pure dmg now with the gem slots.

This is all fantastic so far. I am in love again.

Gameplay footage looks awesome but after playing the first two I'm a bit reluctant to sit and watch myself die a billion times with no story.

Good point, the story is very convoluted. You really have to dig for the details but if you take your time and read some of the texts spread out things kind of make sense.

But yea it's not easy getting it.

My friend let me borrow it last week. I can't get enough! I guess I'm just so used to their games that I give zero shits about following their stories. I just get immersed in the word and figuring out how to progress, and fighting to gain that next inch. Finding a new shortcut is one of the most pleasurable experiences to be had, and finally outsmarting that enemy that kicked your ass 10 times in a row is quite the feeling of accomplishment. The thing I love about these games, is the mastery. If you win a fight it's because of your mastery of combat and your skills increasing after every defeat. I've never felt I only won because of chance, although sometimes you get lucky or unlucky breaks. The mechanics aren't broken or rigged, if you win it's because you earned it. If you lose it's because you weren't good enough. That's a major reason these games have been so successful. They aren't CHEAP. Although I must say it feels a little easier than previous games in some areas. I don't know if that's just from previous experienced gained, or if they really did make it a tad easier to gain a larger audience.

If you accept the game for what it is about you'll love it. If you like something different, oh well, but it's not the game's fault. I can play a million games with a good storyline, or something linear, or easier. When I play a Souls game, I know what I'm getting and I embrace it. :P

One of the greatest things is the beauty of the world, the variety in locations, and the mind boggling interconnectedness. They should give out awards for making a world like that. The talent of level design required to make it is pretty impressive. Opening a door and finding out is you're in a whole different area than you thought is pretty cool.

I personally think the game is easier than the others as well. Being an avid souls fan does give you an advantage because: you know what you are getting into and what to look out for a little more.

I also think the game is a little easier in general just because of how freakin fast it is. You can dodge sooooo fast, and the invincibility frames you have during your dodges are pretty damn forgiving. Too forgiving.

I finished the game this morning! Absolutely fantastic. The visual design is awesome, love the setting of Yharnam, the level design was excellent with a ton of really satisfying shortcuts to find, digging up the story was damn cool and the weapons were all really creative. Honestly as someone who came to love Dark Souls a hell of a lot, I would but Bloodborne on the same level, it's that good.

I got the edition which included The Old Hunters and I have to say, the bosses in the DLC were some of the coolest and most difficult in the entire series. I won't spoil any of them for folk who haven't played it yet but for what it's worth, The Old Hunters is absolutely worth getting. I actually steamrolled the end of the base game after finishing the DLC it's that much easier. :lol

But aye, after waiting a solid 9 months to play this game, I can say it was worth it. Bloodborne is absolutely top notch.

How many hours did you getting out of the DLC? As a rule I generally object to buying DLC. I feel the hour/entertainment to dollar value is a rip off. That's one if the reason I often wait to buy ultimate/complete editions of games a year or two later, at a reduced price no less. As much as I loved this game I probably won't buy the DLC out of principle.

I got about 8 hours out of the DLC I think, versus like 20 hours in the base game. It was pretty damn substantial and as I said, had my very favourite bosses in it. I got it all as part of the Game of the Year Edition for £40, pretty good value I'd say.

I got the game on release for the PS4 and I haven't had the heart to get the DLC. I love the game but its replay value sunk hard for me opposed to the souls series. I didn't see myself finding a DLC a worthy investment for how much I actually played the whole game itself. It was a blast, I just can't see myself revisiting it as much as I had wanted to.

I have no idea how many hours I put on the game, I have 3 characters or so, and they are all pretty developed.

Depends, if you count until you finish it. 10 years. If you count until you throw your PS4 out of a window and buy a ticket to Japan to stab the cunt that made it in the eyes...about an hour.
