My friend let me borrow it last week. I can't get enough! I guess I'm just so used to their games that I give zero shits about following their stories. I just get immersed in the word and figuring out how to progress, and fighting to gain that next inch. Finding a new shortcut is one of the most pleasurable experiences to be had, and finally outsmarting that enemy that kicked your ass 10 times in a row is quite the feeling of accomplishment. The thing I love about these games, is the mastery. If you win a fight it's because of your mastery of combat and your skills increasing after every defeat. I've never felt I only won because of chance, although sometimes you get lucky or unlucky breaks. The mechanics aren't broken or rigged, if you win it's because you earned it. If you lose it's because you weren't good enough. That's a major reason these games have been so successful. They aren't CHEAP. Although I must say it feels a little easier than previous games in some areas. I don't know if that's just from previous experienced gained, or if they really did make it a tad easier to gain a larger audience.
If you accept the game for what it is
about you'll love it. If you like something different, oh well, but it's not the game's fault. I can play a million games with a good storyline, or something linear, or easier. When I play a Souls game, I know what I'm getting and I embrace it.

One of the greatest things is the beauty of the world, the variety in locations, and the mind boggling interconnectedness. They should give out awards for making a world like that. The talent of level design required to make it is pretty impressive. Opening a door and finding out is you're in a whole different area than you thought is pretty cool.
